Falstaff Wine Guide Austria 2023/24 ****

The Steininger family has found its own Austrian sparkling wine philosophy with the vintage-pure sparkling grape varieties of the Kamptal. The secret of the success of the classic line is based on two factors: the excellent quality of the base wines, which are distinct, fruity, and fragrant, and the subsequent gentle second fermentation in the bottle. These two factors work together to bring out the varietal character and the base wine"s flavour.

The single vineyard wines, Riesling Ried Heiligenstein, Pinot Blanc Ried Panzaun, and Grüner Veltliner Ried Steinhaus, highlight the variety and terroir. The Steininger family also focuses on premium quality still wines. The focus is on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Each individual vine expresses its terroir and gives the wine its character; fruit and varietal distinctions. Channelling the grapes" aromas from the vineyards into the wine is their main priority and reflects the cool Kamptal climate. The winery"s most important vineyard sites are Ried Loisium, Ried Lamm, Ried Kittmannsberg, Ried Kogelberg, Ried Steinhaus, and Ried Seeberg.
