The Wine Cabinet

Dear Subscriber

It"s Saturday, March 23, at The Wine Cabinet!

March Madness??? That hail yesterday was the real definition of madness!! Blue skies one minute and people diving for cover in the parking lot the next. Fortunately, we were able to shelter all those in danger and give them a little something to soothe their shaky nerves. :-)

(FYI - The Steindorfer Reserve St. Laurent red had everyone saying WOW! yesterday. We have a little bit left.)

Kelly Allen has some exceptional wines and is willing to do the same for you today, whether or nor not we get more severe weather!

Of course, many nerves were shaken due to the less than stellar performances of chosen teams on the hardwood. UVA had many fans shaking their heads when they headed to the locker at half 6 points down to a Gardner-Webb team that probably has fewer total students than are accommodated in the Athletic dorms at Virginia. They did manage to pull it out.

Well, if you win today and tomorrow, you"re headed for the Sweet Sixteen!!
Glory Alleluia!!
We have plenty of selections for your celebratory meals - wines, beers, ciders - take your choice, we"ll help you match it up perfectly!

Come by the shop this afternoon!

The Wines!!!
Xarmant Txakoli de Alava, Spain $17.99
One of the most expensive white wines from the region of  Arabako Txakolina.
A floral nose with hints of wet stone gives way to a crisp palate of apples, pears and sweet berries with a natural spritz.
Blend: Hondarribi Zuri, Izkiriota, Izkiriota Ttippia, and Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia
Good Luck with the pronounciation!!

Ostatu Rioja Alavesa Blanco $14.99
White young wine made from 85% Viura and 15% Malvasia grapes which come from old vineyards (between 30 and 80 years old). ... Bodegas Ostatu is a family winery located in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa region in the town of Samaniego. ... Highly regarded for distinctive and age-worthy red wines and complex and deeply flavored white wine.

The Fableist Pinot Noir $24.99
Bold, fresh cranberries and raspberries seem to pop on the palate, brought back to earth by gentle nutmeg, clove and just a hint of mushroom.  The finish is inky and chocolatey, with a touch of cocoa nibs and baking spices.  A classic pairing with duck.

Shebang 12th Cuvee" Red $17.99
90 points Decanter (Cuvée XI)
"A multi-vintage, multi-varietal mish-mash! From Morgan Twain-Peterson MW, it includes old-vine Zinfandel, Carignan, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, Alicante Bouschet and Barbera, made in a solera. Juicy red fruit, fresh acidity, dusty tannins and grippy complexity."

K&L Notes: The Whole Shebang! is inspired by the Bedrock Vineyard, which was founded in 1854 by business partners and then-Californians William Tecumseh Sherman and Fightin" Joe Hooker, who were trying their hand at the wine country life--until troubles back east pulled them back into government service. Later, it was replanted by Senator George Hearst. Vintner Morgan Twain-Peterson makes this field blend styled wine from 55% Zinfandel, with Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Alicante Bouchet, Grenache, Syrah, Barbera, and a few aromatic white varieties. Many of these sources are old vines, making this one of our best bargains in heritage-vineyard California wine. Fun fact: Originally, Shebang! was released in a petite wine jug, with a handle, to emphasize its everyday drinkability.

The Fableist Cabernet Sauvignon $22.99
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon greets you with scents of lush blue fruit and memories of your grandfather’s briarwood pipe. As the flavor begins to march across your palate it leaves behind hints of sweet plums, warm cedar planks and freshly ground spices.

Every little sip leaves you comfortable, content and just feelin’ lucky.

The Beers!!

Dupont  Saison 25 oz. 12.99
Dupont Brewery (in French: Brasserie Dupont) is a brewery in Tourpes (Leuze-en-Hainaut), ... However, the popularization of the Saison Dupont by their American importer in the 1980s led to great international popularity for this beer, which  is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. ... It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.
For export relabeled as "Vieille Provision".

Two Roads "Lil" Juicy" Hopped New England Style IPA, 4 pack $14.99

8.2% ABV

An unfiltered, cloudy “New England style Double IPA” that uses generous amounts of Hallertauer Blanc, Citra & Mandarina Bavaria hops. The result is a “juicy”, fully-charged DIPA with notes of grapefruit, pine, lychee, orange & tangerine against a soft malt backdrop.

Commonwealth Experiential Double IPA, 4 pack $19.99
 8.0% ABV
Double IPA with Hallertau Blanc, Citra and Mosaic hops!
A culmination of brewing techniques brings forth a hazy  from the void.
