CORTINA
Zinfandel
2013
DRY CREEK
 VALLEY
Seghesio Family Vineyards
Established 1895

Fourteen years ago, on our Grand Opening Night, we chose to serve to Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel.
We did that because we knew then, as we do now, that as far as California Zins are concerned,
Seghesio is the benchmark by which others are judged.

94 Points The Wine Advocate
"The 2013 Zinfandel Cortina, which comes from their lowest yielding, dry farmed vineyards, exhibits perhaps the deepest level of fruit intensity, with loads of raspberries, black cherries, some spice, a full-bodied earthiness, moderately high alcohol (as all of these do) at 14.8%, but a long, layered finish. This is probably one of my favorites of this grouping. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

94 Points
The Wine Spectator
"This captures such a distinct sense of place it almost smells like Dry Creek Valley. Briary raspberry and smoky cinnamon aromas lead to complex, layered flavors of dried sage, licorice and dark cherry. Tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2024."

CHEN"S VINEYARD ESTATE FARMED SINCE 1957

In the early 1900s, Seghesio Family Vineyards began purchasing fruit from growers in Dry Creek Valley in recognition of the area’s great potential for Zinfandel. Thier Dry Creek Valley appellation Zinfandel is sourced from some of the valley’s best benchland sites as well as from the estate-farmed Cortina vineyard, named for the dominant soil type of this area. Cortina is a gravelly loam that contributes to Dry Creek Valley’s reputation as one of the finest places in the world to grow Zinfandel. With mornings shrouded in fog during the summer months, this Dry Creek Valley ranch’s diverse soils consist primarily of a gravelly loam called Cortina.

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Bright aromas of dark cherry and black raspberry. Upfront fruit appeal supported with underpinnings of complexity and slight white pepper spice. Soft entry develops into warm, full mid-palate. Finish strikes ideal balance of tannins, fruit and acidity. Yum!

About Seghesio........

CELEBRATING FIVE GENERATIONS AND OVER 120 YEARS

2015 marks Seghesio Family Vineyards’ 120th anniversary in Sonoma

County. As one of the very few California wineries that can lay claim to a history of more than a century, we see this as an anniversary to be celebrated and an opportunity to recognize and share our history with family, friends and customers.

In many ways the story of Seghesio Family Vineyards is the story of the Sonoma County wine industry. It begins with the vision and determination of immigrants and continues through the hardship of Prohibition and the challenges of survival in the 20th and 21st century. It is the story of one family’s adaptation and reinvention, not once, but multiple times. Most of all it is the story of the values we hold dear: heritage, tradition and community. Through five generations and 120 years, Seghesio Family Vineyards has been proud to be part of the vibrant history and fabric of Sonoma County

Seghesio Family Vineyards was established in 1895 when Italian immigrant and winemaker Edoardo Seghesio planted his first Zinfandel vineyard in what is now Seghesio’s Home Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Edoardo and his wife Angela continued to tend their vineyards through Prohibition and were one of approximately 100 wineries to survive that era. Post-prohibition, Seghesio was a key supplier of grapes and bulk wine to large California wineries.

The modern era saw fourth generation family member Ted Seghesio make the first wines under the Seghesio label. Under the leadership and guidance of Ted and his cousin Pete, Seghesio Family Vineyards has become renowned for exceptional Zinfandels and Italian varietals.

In 2011 Seghesio Family Vineyards joined Crimson Wine Group. Today, in addition to Ted as winemaker and Pete as Ambassador, several members of the Seghesio family hold positions, both in the vineyards and winery, including fifth generation family member Ned Neumiller who serves as Seghesio’s Grower Relations & Viticulture Manager.

The Vineyard!

Sleight of Hand
“One of my favorite estates in Walla Walla is unquestionably Trey Busch"s and Jerry Solomon"s Sleight of Hand.
They"re aided by Keith Johnson, who joined the team in 2011.
These are gorgeous Washington State wines that have tons of fruit and texture, as well as balance, purity, and freshness.
In addition, they"re good values. I love the wines.”
JEB DUNNUCK, WINE ADVOCATE JUNE 2017

Serious wines without the serious attitudes...
Sleight of Hand Cellars was founded in 2007 by Trey Busch and Jerry and Sandy Solomon. Our only goal from the outset has been to make world class wines while having the most fun that is legally possible. Our love of great wines from around the world, and our love of music, have inspired our vision and growth and have helped us reach a customer base that has the same passions as we do. The winery has been open for less than ten years, but in that time Sleight of Hand Cellars has been named one of "The Next Generation" of up and coming wineries in Washington State, as well as one of "The Next Cult Wineries" by Seattle Magazine. In addition, we have been featured in Wine Spectator magazine and had numerous wines in various of the industry’s “Top 100” lists. Most recently, the Wine Advocate had this to say about our wines: “While I"ve always loved the wines from these guys, they"ve hit a new level recently, and the wines are now up there with the crème’ de la crème’ of the state (and beyond).”

The Wines!!

Renegade Chardonnay $14.99
This is a smooth fruit forward Chardonnay that was aged in Stainless Steel for 7 months, and a light toasted French Oak barrel for only 4 weeks to give it a nice creaminess on the finish. Its not overly oaky, or buttery, a perfect balance. The grapes are from the Livermore Valley Appelation.

The Magician Riesling $21.99
The 2015 Magician is 100% Riesling from Evergreen Vineyard, located high on the cliffs high above the Columbia River in the middle of Washington State. 2015 was a warm vintage, but Evergreen"s cool site allows for extra hang time for the grapes, the result of which was more flavor, while maintaining the beautiful acidity that is the framework of this wine. Bright, crisp and juicy are the hallmarks of this Riesling, full of green apple and pear notes, juicy minerality and refreshing citrus notes. The very subtle sweetness is perfectly balanced by the acids, and if ever there were a perfect wine for spicy foods, this is the one!

Renegade Red Bland $14.99
A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Fruit forward on the nose, with  smooth earthy finish.
Fruit was from Solano county. An inexpensive wine that is easy to drink.

The Conjurer Bordeaux Blend $29.99

90-92 Points- Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate.
"A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and a splash of Petit Verdot, the 2015 The Conjurer should end up being a smokin’ value. It offers complex notes of tobacco leaf, black currants, spice and earth in a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, balanced style. It"s going to drink nicely right out of the gate."

The Illusionist Cabernet Sauvignon $54.99

93 Pts The Wine Enthusiast and The Wine Advocate
"The first vintage to include Merlot, the 2014 The Illusionist checks in as a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. The idea with the Merlot was to soften the profile slightly, and the Merlot was the best two barrels in the winery. It is a seamless, full-bodied, incredible looking barrel sample that has pure, layered notes of cassis, graphite, blue fruits and toasted spice notes that continue to change with time in the glass.
Give it a few years of bottle age and enjoy it through 2034."

The Chardonnay is aged in small oak barrels, the Pinot Blanc in stainless steel is fruit forward and the Pinot Noir is pressed white and aged in small oak. It is aged 2 years on its lees and the yeast gives this Champagne like Sparkling wine a wonderful creaminess and the fine mousse. On the palate it has pleasant nutty notes with some brioche and a refined bouquet.

Steininger Riesling Heiligenstein Sekt $59.99

Heiligenstein is one of the most famous Riesling vineyard in the world. The steep terrases and „Urgestein“ are the perfect recipe for a great Riesling. This single vineyard sparkling wine is characterzed by pure minerality, deep fruit nunances of stone fruit, tremendous density and highly delicate bouquet. The base wine was matured in large neutral oak casks, giving sufficient rest period on the lees. A zero dosage lets all those delicate flavors shine through a perfect elegant fine mousse.

The press in Austria wrote: “Karl’s Heiligenstein Sekt starts where Champane stops.....delicate and exceptional“!

As always, check us out on Facebook   for a more detailed list (and photos!).

From Alesmith:
Horny Devil - Belgian-style Golden Ale brewed with authentic Belgian ingredients including candy sugar and a Trappist yeast strain, its fruity and spicy aromas include notes of orange, banana, and peppercorns. Coriander seeds add refreshing citrus notes which meld seamlessly with the beer’s delicate malt. Horny Devil finishes with a lively carbonation and a refreshingly dry finish. ABV = 10%

From Omnipollo:

Lustro Imperial IPA – White Ultra Light Imperial IPA. Tons of citrus with also a firm bitterness to back it up. ABV = 8%.
Shoutao - IPA brewed with peach and lactose sugar. ABV = 7%

From Evil Twin:

Breaking The Waves - double dry hopped imperial IPA brewed with a bit of lactose to smooth it out. Hops used are some of our absolute favorites; citra, amarillo and simcoe. ABV = 10%
I Always Felt Closer to IPAs Than I Did to People - double dry-hopped Imperial IPA. In addition to a “touch” of Amarillo and Simcoe hops, the beer was brewed with 5.6 pounds per barrel of “mostly” Citra and Galaxy hops. ABV = 9%

From Captain Lawrence Brewing Co.:

Powder Dreams – IPA brewed with a combination of 2-row and oats for a silky smooth texture and taste. Hopped exclusively with Mosaic in the kettle, with a healthy dose dumped right into the fermenter, and then dry-hopped with Citra lupulin powder. Absolutely bursting with tropical, juicy, passion fruit aromas and flavors! New American hops at their finest. ABV = 6.5%

From Stone:

Stone Imperial Russian Stout – massive and intensely aromatic beer that abounds with notes of chocolate, coffee, black currants, anise and roastiness with a heavy palate. ABV = 10.8%

From The Bruery:

Share This: OC – Imperial Stout infused with orange-chocolate flavors from orange zest, vanilla, and TCHO cacao nibs. $1 from every bottle goes to Food Forward that recovers fresh fruits and vegetables that would normally go to waste from backyard fruit trees, public orchards, and farmers markets. ABV = 11%

From Het Anker:

Gouden Carolus Christmas – Strong, dark ruby red beer with character. Brewed in August, the beer rests a few months to reach optimal balance. Three kinds of hops and 6 different kinds of herbs and spices define the rich taste of this beer. ABV = 10.5%

HOLIDAY FAVORITES…

Stone – Enjoy By 12.25.17. For this version of Stone Enjoy By IPA they thought: “We don’t always have a filter, so why should our beer?” By skipping a step and letting this devastatingly fresh, golden-hued double IPA go unfiltered, the beer takes on a hazy appearance and its peach and tropical fruit hop aroma are intensified. So though it may sound like it, this missed step was no misstep. Delicious!

The Bruery – 10 Lords-A-Leaping. Dark, imperial wit ale featuring 10 different spices: coriander, orange peel, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, mace, anise, dried apples and cloves, which complement the spiced noted imparted from the yeast and prance upon the rich, dark fuited character of the specialty malts.

Brasserie Dubuisson Pipaix – Scaldis Noel. One of the great Belgian Christmas ales that comes in at a sneaky 12% ABV is golden brown and slightly hazy with a frothy beige head. The bouquet is impressive, with smooth alcohol, honey, and cracked pepper notes that all vie for attention. The flavor sinks deep into the tongue with toffee and honey sweetness, followed by raisin and plum fruitiness. Hops come to the surface as peppery spice and assertive bitterness. Overall, with its array of flavor, from the sweet and fruity to spicy and bitter, this beer is very well balanced.

From Delirium:

Noel – Belgian Strong Ale that pours clear reddish amber with an off white head. Aroma is spicy sweet, spicy malts, yeasty with dried fruits, berries, grains. Taste is moderate sweet, sweet malts, caramel, dried fruits with a boozy warmth. Medium body, soft carb, sweetish, spicy finish. Nicely balanced, a Christmas beer done right. ABV = 10%

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA:  The Holy Grail for Hops Lovers!! American Double/Imperial IPA Boiled for a full 2 hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged for another month on whole-leaf hops
Taste is thick, notable alcohol presence, orange liquor, white grapes, dark fruit—meant for sipping. ABV 18.0%
