Two Brothers came home from college to save the Family Farm,
and ended up creating a wine region.....
Dunnigan Hills

Matchbook Wine Company is a family-owned winery and vineyard located in Yolo County,
the county that boarders Napa to the East.
The Giguiere family immigrated to this area from Quebec City in the 1850’s in search of open ag ground.
John and Karl Giguiere are 5th generation farmers who know the region’s soil, climate and true potential of the land.
This knowledge combined with their curiosity and
drive to innovate has been the force behind their development of viticulture and wine making in the Dunnigan Hills.

In 1993, the Dunnigan Hills became an official AVA, thanks to a petition presented by owners John and Lane Giguiere. The rocky soils and Mediterranean climate allow for a long, dry growing season providing the ideal growing conditions for wine grapes. But it is the upland geography that sets the appellation apart from its neighbors to east. The hills that rise above the Sacramento Valley to the west capture the cool breezes off the delta region and drop the nighttime temperatures by 40 degrees in the summer. This diurnal swing from daytime highs to nighttime lows allows the grapes to cool, preserving their natural acidity. In 1993, the Dunnigan Hills became an official AVA, thanks to a petition presented by owners John and Lane Giguiere.
