Dear Subscriber

 Today  is Thursday, 1 April
 Fools Day

"On April 1, 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other.

Although the day, also called All Fools’ Day, has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures,
its exact origins remain a mystery.

Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582,
when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563.
People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1
and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes.

These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as poisson d’avril (April fish),
said to symbolize a young, “easily hooked” fish and a gullible person.

April Fools’ Day spread throughout Britain during the 18th century. In Scotland, the tradition became a two-day event, starting with “hunting the gowk,” in which people were sent on phony errands (gowk is a word for cuckoo bird, a symbol for fool) and followed by Tailie Day, which involved pranks played on people’s derrieres, such as pinning fake tails or “kick me” signs on them." -

2019

Rhone Valley, France

40% Grenache, 30% Marselan (Marselan is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache), 30% Merlot

This Baby Tavel has scored 90 points or above for as long I can remember.
The problem has been it sells out so fast we have never been able to get enough of it!

Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate when commenting on Dom. Mordorée labeled it as
"one of the world’s greatest wine estates"

91 Points
"Deep, lurid pink.
Mineral-accented cherry and citrus fruit aromas are complemented by discreet herbal and floral nuances.
Concentrated and sappy in the mouth, offering juicy cherry, raspberry and blood orange flavors that slowly turn sweeter through the midpalate. The floral note returns on the long, penetrating finish,

which leaves behind a juicy tangerine note and a flourish of spicy white pepper." - Josh Reynolds

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Light garnet color, showing notes of ripe strawberry, berry and a hint of rhubarb.
This is a full-flavored, yet dry rosé with rich extract on a long finish.

Good structure, complexed with a hint of earth flavors, this is the rare rosé that will provoke lots of discussion.
Arguably one of the top estates in the Rhone, Domaine de la Mordorée (woodcock), located in the town of Tavel,
in the Southern Rhône Valley, is a consistent producer of top quality Reds and Rosé’s.
Pairs well with chicken, veal, fish, salads, grilled veggies, Asian cuisine and is also excellent as an aperitif.
