For all of you who have been requesting an Italian wine for Open Bottle Thursday …here you go as promised and boy is it tasty!
So yes we are still tasting wine for Open Bottle Thursday and as regularly scheduled this weekend.  We will be Tasting in smaller groups of 3- 4 patrons, and of course we are diligently following safety and sanitation guidelines. If you wish we can pull your order in advance and have it ready for pick up or just drive up for curbside service.  We are here to help you with wine and beer but we also want you safe.
The label of the Santedame Chianti Classico shows a beautiful fresco of the Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint John and Saint Peter. This fresco, which has a sweet, loving air to it, can be seen in the small chapel hidden in the forest of the Santedame Estate. The fresco dates back to the fourteenth century and is attributed to the school of the famous Florentine artist Il Ghirlandaio. It is one of the many examples of how history, culture and wine meet on the Santedame Estate.

Wine Spectator

"A beam of pure cherry grounds this red, while accents of earth, tobacco, wild herbs, iron and wet stone add depth. Vibrant, balanced and set for a long life. Best from 2021 through 2035."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Ruby red with intense fruity aromas of violets typical of the Sangiovese grapes are matched with notes of ripe plums and red and black berry fruits. Evolved aging aromas provide tertiary notes of black pepper and tobacco. This medium-bodied wine delivers both structure and balance with flavors of plums, blackberry, and currant enhanced by rich velvety tannins. It has an elegant, lingering finish of red berry fruits and balsamic notes. To enjoy this bottle fully have it open for an hour or decant for 30 minutes.

 A bit about Ruffino .....

In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make the most known and loved Italian wines in the world from the heart of Tuscany. At their winery in Pontassieve, just outside of Florence, they began producing wines according to a strict quality standard and a rigorous technical research. Soon, Ruffino became an international symbol of the Chianti region, and won numerous awards, including the prestigious gold medal at the Bordeaux Wine Fair in 1895, affirming the quality of its wine.

In 1913, the Folonari family purchased Ruffino and brought new talent, energy and enthusiasm into the company. They started on a nearly century-long pursuit to develop a collection of estates in Tuscany, all of which matched the standard of quality and uniqueness which was the trademark of Ruffino wine.

Over the last sixty years, Ruffino has established seven prominent estates in Tuscany, all situated within the major DOCG production regions including Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti and Chianti Classico. Today, Ruffino continues to meld century-long Tuscan traditions with new state-of-the-art cellar technology and modern winemaking for an ideal symbiosis with the energy of the contemporary Italian lifestyle.
