Dear Subscriber

Welcome to the Weekend!

Check out The Wine Club Class schedule thru May below. February"s Class with Hughes Beaulieu former Sommelier at The Inn at Little Washington will explore what the Europeans drink. This will be a eight bottle extended tasting of everyday wines from Spain, France and Italy.

Tonight, with the colder weather we decided to  open two stylishly different Ports for your enjoyment and to warm you up a bit!

About the Ports....

The First is a  Late Bottled Vintage Port (Ruby)
Late Bottled Vintage Port was created several centuries after Vintage Port, becoming a commercially viable alternative for grapes that were not quite vintage worthy, without having to declassify them for use in other Ports.

The Second is a Tawny Port
A Tawny Port is a blend of older-vintage wines and displays a rich amber color. Tawnies typically fall on the slightly sweeter side of the spectrum. As a tawny port spends more time in oak, its color starts to fade from ruby red to more ruby-orange or a "brick-red," often reaching a deep amber or mahogany color by the time it"s matured. As the aging process continues, a Tawny will taste nuttier and will develop the rich flavors of caramelized figs, dates, and prunes, compared with the fresh-fruit character of Ruby Port.

Tonight"s Tasting Table 5:00 - 8:00pm
A visit to Spain and Portugal with Tatiana!

Great values abound for this special line-up.
Come join us to taste and learn!

Delaforce  Alvarinho  2017
Beautiful citric color slightly golden complement the delicate notes of citrus and orange blossom. This fresh and full-bodied douro alvarinho shows complexity and a crisp acidity balanced by a flavorful minerality. Enjoy this refreshing and delicious wine in any occasion: serve with grilled fish and fresh seafood

Portal Douro Colheita  2016
Made with a very carefully winemaking, using gravity and precise techniques, this wine is full bodied with a ripe berry colour and fruity aromas marked by Tinta Roriz that is responsible for the intense aroma of   young fresh fruit and by floral notes from the Touriga Nacional. Excellent freshness, toasty and appetising in the mouth, with an attractive andelegant finish. It’s a wine that we can enjoy from now but it will also age a few years very well.

Montecillo Rioja Reserve 2012

WINE ENTHUSIAST

Wine Enthusiast -Rioja, Spain - "Familiar Rioja aromas of creamy oak, wood smoke, leather, and earthy berry fruits are encouraging and lead to a solid palate...Blackberry, cassis and vanilla aromas..."

Deep bright cherry red colour, clean with garnet rim.On the nose it shows great balance and ripe fruit followed by fresh hints of noble oak. Structured and elegant tannins accompanied by sweet, aniseed-like notes for an intense and long finish. The perfect accompaniment to red grilled or barbequed meats, stews and slightly chilly dishes. Fresh yet complex pairs beautifully with a broad range of cheeses.

Portal LBV Port 2011
These are wines produced in years of excellent quality and are aged longer in wood than Vintage Port. They are bottled four years after the harvest. Red in colour, they are full bodied, smooth and with a fruity bouquet. Our LBVs are bottled unfiltered so decanting is recommended as during the course of the years the wine will throw deposit.
Beautiful ruby color, this wine shows an excelent fragrance of red fruit with some notes of spice and cocoa. Big on palate but with round tannins, a complex bouquet and a harmonious and long finish. A young and robust LBV

Portal 6 Barrels Tawny
This is a blend of our unique tawny Ports aged for 7 years in our cellars after a careful selection of the best 6 barrels. The wine is also a tribute to Quinta do Portal"s founder to each one of his 6 grandchildren. With a lovely colour, given by the ageing in wood, it shows a dried fruits and raisins aromas. The smoothness and balance on the palate give us a good idea of the slowly ageing process. The smoothness and the well balanced on the palate, give us a good idea of the slowly ageing process.

Peak Organic Brewing Company Slim Hazy Low Cal Hoppy IPA 4.1% ABV Portland, Maine
IPA is a American IPA style beer brewed by Peak Organic Brewing Company in Portland, ME ... Semi hazy, citrusy, piney, and little bitter in the back of the mouth.

Saranac Brewing Company  S’MORE Porter 6.2 ABV
Utica, NY

This porter tastes like chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker. It"s brewed with a blend of caramel, biscuit, brown, and roasted malts and aged with chocolate and vanilla.

Solace Brewing Co. Foggy Goggles IPA 6.8% ABV
Sterling, VA

Mosaic and Simcoe hops. Aromas and flavors of pineapple, tangerine, and grapefruit with hints of pine and resin.
Aroma is big and beautiful. Classic thick pineapple but with more dank edge. Hits with a big pine and earthy punch mixing it all in for a big sensing juicy bonanaza. Hop forward and rightly done, but leaving everything else behind. Minimal sweetness as well. Hop lovers feast and well placed.
