We have been enjoying this offering since it was first introduced back in 2000, in fact it was on the shelf on our opening day back in 2003.
The name Cotes du Crow"s is a friendly poke at the Cote’ du Rhone region and its sub appellation Crozes-Hermitage as the wine is a blend of the two predominate varietals in the Rhone.

“This mix of 56% Grenache, 37% Syrah and 7% Tempranillo is extra-fresh upon opening the twist-top bottle, showing aromas of raspberry, sagebrush and white pepper. 
The palate also combines fresh red fruit, pepper and herbs, making for a zesty sip”.


Our Thoughts...............

This Rhone-style blend has a rich ruby red color, highlighted with purple edges. Rasberry compote and maraschino cherry aromas jump out of the glass. The wine is medium-bodied with soft tannins, offering a mouthful of black fruit and rose petal. Its weight and balance make it a perfect pairing with chicken, meaty fish, pork or anything off the grill.
 
Like the Rhone valley, the wine was fermented in open top tanks and received manual punch-downs. This enabled good extraction and structure development with pleasant tannins. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels. The 10% new oak gives the wine subtle spice and vanilla characters without overpowering the elegant fruit profile.

Dan & Donna Lee: Morgan Winery"s Proprietors
 

In 1982, Dan and Donna Lee opened the doors of Morgan Winery. Their very first Monterey Chardonnay earned a Gold Medal at the LA County Fair and a Platinum Medal from Wine & Spirits Magazine. Since then, Morgan has become one of the Central Coast’s most recognized labels, earning “Winery of the Year” honors from Wine & Spirits in 1996 and from the San Francisco Chronicle in 2003. In 2005, Dan introduced a second label, Lee Family Farms – intended to provide a fun outlet for his exploration of “alternative” varietals.

Able to pick and choose fruit sources from around the state, Dan eventually turned more of his attention to the Santa Lucia Highlands and single vineyard releases. Dan and Donna invested in their belief in the Highlands with the purchase of the Double L Vineyard in 1996. Today the Double L is one of the best known vineyards in California. Dan’s leadership and expertise in the district led to his being named the first Board President of the newly formed Santa Lucia Highlands’ winegrowers association in 2005.
