La Piane Wines, Piemonte, Italy
Christoph Kunzli had the opportunity to become acquainted with the “BOCA” wine production region when in 1988, together with Alexander Tolf, he met Antonio Cerri.  At that time Antonio was more than eighty years old and one of the last local wine growers to produce and cellar the typical and outstanding Boca wine.   Christoph was immediately fascinated by the uniqueness and the beauty of the vineyards on the hills near Boca, and by the sumptuousness of its wines as well.  Antonio had been making wine for his family and his friends all his life.  His vineyard was planted with Nebbiolo (called Spanna locally) and Vespolina in the early 1920’s.  It was small but beautiful, facing south and sheltered from the hill on which it was planted.

The Wines!!
Pares Balta Cava $15.99
a delightful sparkling wine from the Penedes region in the northeast of Spain, just west of Barcelona.
Pares Balta is a family owned winery in the Penedes region with a tradition that goes back to 1790.
The vineyards have been certified organic since the 2004 vintage.

Pares Balta Penedes Blanc de Pacs $13.99
Blend of the 3 traditional varieties from the Penedès: Xarel·lo, Parellada and Macabeu.
Three varieties grown especially to create a white wine that obtains its intense aroma from the freshness of the fruit.
Xarel·lo gives the body, Macabeu the fruit and Parellada the delicate freshness and the floral notes it can obtain in the highest mountains in the Penedès.

Pares Balta Penedes Rose" de Pacs $13.99
With this rosé made of the best adapted varieties in our landscape country, the Grenache, the Syrah and the Cabernet Sauvignon,
we want to bring the spring sensations into your wineglass.
A basket of juicy red summer fruits, a brunch of flowers, as a poppies field.
A fresh, soft, aromatic wine to enjoy in good company.

Le Piane Maggiorina Rosso $19.99
“Maggiorina,” a somewhat lighter wine, is produced from grapes grown in old “Maggiorina” vineyards (25 different small fields).
These fields are planted mixing twelve different varieties of grapes (mostly Nebbiolo and Croatina but even some white varietals) to give a real field blend.
The wine is released after one year of aging in stainless steel tanks and, as well as the characteristic mineral and spicy taste, it also has hints of fresh fruits.
This is a wine that should be enjoyed within the first two years after harvest.

Le Piane Mimmo $29.99
“Mimmo” is dedicated to a friend from Boca who collaborated with the winery for many years to improve the quality standards in their vineyards. The wine can be defined as a “Little Boca.” Less structured and riper parts of “Boca DOC” (Nebbiolo and Vepsolina grapes) are blended after two years of aging in large barrels together with riper Croatina grapes (30%) to produce a light wine which is more amenable than “Boca DOC” and functions as good door-opener to the more complex but also more demanding flagship wine “Boca DOC.” There is a nice floral and fruity flavor with a soft elegance and long-lasting taste. “Mimmo” does not need to age for long but matures well over a period of three to six years.

Le Piane Boca $69.99
The mineral composition of the porphyry soil together with the characteristics of the Nebbiolo grapes create in “Boca” a full expressive wine.
Flavors are reminiscent of well-matured wood berries, tobacco and leather with hints of balsamic and citrus fruits.
Power and silky elegance develop in the mouth which plays with a slightly noble-bitter finish.
Ages well from 10- 20 years.
