Dear Subscriber

It"s Saturday, 8 December at
The Wine Cabinet!

The Tasting starts at 1:00 today, and we"re focused on fine wines perfectly suited for gifting or entertaining during this holiday season, offered by one of our favorite local wine merchants,
Virginia Imports represented by Tatiana El Shafie!

The Calling Vineyard is a project of Jim Nantz and Peter Deutsch, famed in their own right, to bring the finest wine to market at an affordable price.
Their wines "Drink Up" in our parlance - drink like wines twice their price.

And to make it even more succulent, Tim Quinn will be sampling Shore Boys Soups and crab cakes today!! YUMMMMM!!
Just the aromas make me very hungry!

And I haven"t even mentioned the beers yet!

See you this afternoon!!

1:00 - 5:00 pm!!

The Wines!!
The Calling Vineyards
It was serendipity that brought Emmy Award winning sports commentator Jim Nantz and wine industry entrepreneur Peter Deutsch together at a restaurant in Greenwich, Connecticut where they were each having dinner with friends. Peter had recently read Jim’s book about his father, Always By My Side, and it resonated with him, reminding him of his own relationship with his father. Peter introduced himself that evening.

Jim was at the restaurant having dinner with a friend who had contacts in the wine industry and was working on an idea that had been in development for years. Jim had long held a passion for wine and was exploring how to take the next step in becoming involved in the wine business when Peter stopped by the table. As fate would have it, that chance meeting would spawn a friendship and partnership, the Deutsch Nantz Alliance (DNA).

Theirs has been a hands-on collaboration. Jim and Peter traveled together to California and worked closely with renowned winemakers Dan Goldfield, Wayne Donaldson, and James MacPhail on every step of the winemaking process, from vineyard to bottle. They also poured themselves into the packaging process, working to capture the essence of the brand in the label design. For Jim and Peter, The Calling is about pursuing a passion, inspiring others, and making a great wine.

Chardonnay $29.99
Aromas of Asian pear and crushed white rose petals entice on the nose, and notes of passion fruit, sweet spice and lemon tart combine into a complex, evolving palate. The lively, crisp minerality invokes the elegance of the cool-climate Russian River Valley. With an opulent mouthfeel and precisely balanced acidity, this is a Chardonnay to drink now and with good aging potential.

Pinot Noir $35.99
91 POINTS - Wine Spectator
Fruit for this vintage was sourced from several locations in the Russian River Valley, each vineyard site contributing critical, unique aspects to the complexity of the resulting wine.  Vineyards located in the warmer end of the Russian River Valley contribute ripe fruit elements.  Vineyards from the cooler areas lend a strong minerality and structural backbone, and vines at altitude with sandy, well-drained soil add complexity and structure.

Cabernet Sauvignon $34.99
This full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon presents blackberry and plum aromatics typical of the Alexander Valley. On the palate, the rich fruit is complemented by accents of sweet tobacco and vanilla. The elegant tannins, oak structure and balanced acidity will age this wine for 10-12 years

Tribute $64.99

92 POINTS - Wine Spectator
This wine was created as Our Tribute to our fathers.  For us, The Calling is about pursuing a passion, inspiring others, and making beautifully handcrafted wines of which our fathers would be proud. The aromas are rich and spicy, with notes of blue and black berry fruits layered over hints of chocolate, brown spice and vanilla. The palate is robust yet elegant, with silky tannins and flavors of black plum and coffee married with a seductive cinnamon spice.  It boasts a dense structure and balanced, velvety tannins.

The Beers!!

Oozlefinch Wonder Spiced Witbier 4 pack $16.99
ABV 5.4%.
Though fall is coming and colder days are right around the corner, us Oozlefinchers are holding on to the beautiful days spent on our outdoor waterfront patio. We weren"t quite ready to stop brewing those traditional summer beer styles, so we came up with Idle Wonder, a 5.4% witbier spiced with coriander and cardamom.

Hardywood Fresh Can Tropication IPA 4 pack $15.99
When cold weather season approaches, you deserve to kick back and reward your palate with a trip to the tropics. The Hardywood Tropication IPA is bursting with the fruit notes and flavors needed to help you do just that. An India Pale Ale, the Hardywood Tropication is all about its fruit aromatics coupled with the Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Oskar Blues Barrel Aged Ten Fidy Imperial Stout 22oz $14.99

10.5% ABV, 65 IBU
This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 65 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY  is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops.

The Soups!!

Shore Boys is a Maryland seafood tradition specializing in our Maryland seafood gourmet cream of crab soup. From Easton Maryland, Shore Boys has garnered "Best Soup" awards on the Eastern Shore with regularity. We"ve had them in the shop for nearly 7 seven years now and have never had anything but praise showered on the quality and flavor of all the varieties!! And, Boy, does it make the shop smell good!!
