Dear Subscriber

Daylight saving time in the United States is the practice of setting the clock forward by one hour during the warmer part of the year, so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. Most areas of the United States observe daylight saving time, the exceptions being Arizona, Hawaii.

We intend to give you a very active life leading up to the hour you"ll save on Saturday Night.

Kicked off last night with Ted Plemons.
My sympathy to all of you who missed the delicious wines that Ted brought from Paso Robles!

Tonight, an old favorite as we offer Belle Glos, Las Alturas at a ridiculous price that will allow you to stock up for Thanksgiving festivities!!

And we"ll continue with great wines and beers on Friday and Saturday!
Make it every day. You can rest up on Sunday!

Friday: Kysela Imports, Melissa Graeff: Melissa has been actively improving her knowledge of wines and it shows in the excellent presentation she brings to the wines on the tasting table. While she is relatively new to our shop, she has quickly become a patron favorite.

Saturday: Bravo Imports, Fabio Marrone: I don"t know why, but wines always seem to sell better when presented with an accent. Fabio certainly has one as well as an endearing smile that makes a friend out of each patron that he interacts with. On top of that his selection of wines is equal to any importer that I know.

The Beer Shelves: We received a bevy of new beers this week to take the place of the Pumpkin and Oktoberfest brews that exits the shop so quickly! If you are into beer, we"re where you need to be this weekend!!

Call or message us on Facebook, if we can put something aside for you before they"re all gone!

Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard

Pinot Noir

Santa Lucia Highlands n2016

This is the last of the 2016 vintage!

90 Points! The Wine Spectator and Wilfred Wong (wine.com)

A rather forceful example of the grape variety, the 2016 Belle Glos Las Alturas Pinot Noir comes through with fine black fruit aroma and flavors. Wood shows up on the palate as the wine completes its journey to its finish.
Pair the wine"s richness with a well-marbled steak.

From the Wagner Family, the makers of
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon.

Belle Glos showcases distinctive Pinot Noirs produced from some of California’s top wine-growing regions. The vineyard locations can all be described as coastal, but the climate differences are significant, depending on the amount of fog, wind, sunlight, and soil type at each site.

Each wine is crafted to the purest essence of the vineyard into elegant expressions of California Pinot Noir. Winemaker Joseph Wagner chose the name Belle Glos (pronounced BELL GLOSS) to honor his grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, a co-founder of Caymus Vineyards.

Belle Glos is part of the famed Wagner family of wines. Crafting handmade wine since the 1800"s (over five family generations) with the names Caymus, Mer Soleil, Conundrum and ,of course, Belle Glos. Always highly rated and sought after, these wines set the standard of excellence by which California wines can be judged.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red in color with intriguing aromas of sun-warmed blackberries, ripe plums, with hints of black licorice. A complexity of dark berry fruits unfold on the palate; blackberries and bing cherries along with dark chocolate flavors. Vanilla and cedar oak undertones on the mid-palate further enhance the wine. The overall impression is rich with refined tannins, firm acidity and explosive layers of ripe fruit.

Las Alturas, meaning “the heights”, is planted at one of the highest vineyard sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine with intense hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full-bodied and balanced with a firm acidity.

The Las Alturas Vineyard....
Total 177.16 Acres
Chardonnay 40.80 Acres
Pinot Noir 108.62 Acres
Viognier 27.74 Acres

Located in one of the highest-plantable sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County, this pristine bench offers the Las Alturas Vineyard cool, coastal days with consistent sunshine and a foundation of Gloria sandy loam soil. When planting this 15-acre vineyard, we matched various Pinot Noir clones to individual slopes and soil attributes of the land. Our yields are deliberately kept low in order to preserve the fruit intensity these clonal choices have given us. Las Alturas Vineyard, means “the heights”. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine with the intense hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full-bodied and balanced with a firm acidity.

The Wagner Family....

In 1971 Charles F. (Charlie) Wagner and his wife Lorna Belle Glos Wagner asked their son Charles J. (Chuck) Wagner, who had just graduated from high school, if he would be interested in joining them in starting up a winery. If Chuck declined the offer, Charlie and Lorna were planning to sell out of their ranch in Napa Valley and move to Australia. Chuck accepted his parents’ offer to launch the winery, Caymus Vineyards.

The Wagners produced their first vintage in 1972, consisting of 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, Caymus has focused their efforts in the production of quality Cabernet Sauvignon. Today’s production is 65,000 cases.

Caymus Vineyards remains 100% family-owned by the Wagners. Charlie, Lorna Belle, and Chuck worked together as a remarkable team for over 30 years building Caymus Cabernet. Today, Chuck, his two sons, Charlie and Joe, and one daughter, Jenny, have joined the family team. Farming grapes remain the priority with the family farming about 350 acres of choice Napa Valley land.

The Wagners took the name Caymus from the Mexican land grant known as Rancho Caymus, given to George Yount in 1836, which encompassed what eventually became the town of Rutherford and much of the surrounding area.

For five generations, my family has lived and loved the Napa Valley. Our grandfather settled here in the 1800s and from that moment forward, we"ve grown to understand there is simply no substitute for an intimate knowledge of the land that only comes by "living" in the vineyard. Working the land with our own hands has given us insights into California winemaking that can"t be found in any book or corporate farm manual.

Chuck Wagner continues to direct the world-reknown Cabernet program at Caymus Vineyards in Napa Valley; Charlie is making exquisite Chardonnay at Mer Soleil in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County; Joseph is making fine Pinot Noir under the Belle Glos label in the coastal areas of California; Jenny is learning the ropes here at Caymus and ah yes, our longtime winemaker for Conundrum, Jon Bolta, continues his craft of making that puzzling, white wine blend.
