2016 Sonoma County Zinfandel
What an accomplishment 90 Points or better the last ten Vintage’s! No wonder they have been making wine since 1895!
90 Points Wine Spectator
"Jammed with zesty fruit, offering bold blackberry and licorice aromas and rich, well-structured black cherry, smoky pepper and grilled anise flavors."
91 Points Decanter
"When it comes to Zinfandel, one name springs to mind: Seghesio. Planting its first Zin in 1895, it is one of the few to master it. Spicy and lush with blackberry and liquorice. It’s big, rich and powerful, all in harmony with firm tannins and direct acidity. Definitely a foodie wine, crying out for rich dishes. "
Our Thoughts….
We love this wine so much that on our Opening Night back in October of 2003 we served this wine (2000 Vintage) out of a Jeroboam (3 liter) bottle to all who attended our opening party! A few years later Pete Seghesio came in town to pour in the shop….boy was that a night! On to the Wine…..
Wonderful balance and sense of elegance, it offers vivid ripe fruit flavors that are rich and complex, with spicy black cherry, blackberry, pomegranate, herb and sage notes that add flavor dimensions and complexity. Firm, but ripe tannins add structure, allowing the fruit to push through. Every year, Seghesio brings in approximately 35 lots of Zinfandel averaging 25-30 years in age. Each of these lots is produced under the careful eye of winemaker, Ted Seghesio. The best of these lots are selected to make Sonoma Zinfandel and it shows.

CELEBRATING FIVE GENERATIONS
AND OVER 120 YEARS
2015 marked Seghesio Family Vineyards’ 120 th anniversary in Sonoma
County. As one of the very few California wineries that can lay claim to a history of more than a century, we cherish the opportunity to recognize and share our history with family, friends and customers.
In many ways the story of Seghesio Family Vineyards is the story of the Sonoma County wine industry. It begins with the vision and determination of immigrants and continues through the hardship of Prohibition and the challenges of survival in the 20th and 21st century. It is the story of one family’s adaptation and reinvention, not once, but multiple times. Most of all it is the story of the values we hold dear: heritage, tradition and community. Through five generations and over 120 years, Seghesio Family Vineyards has been proud to be part of the vibrant history and fabric of Sonoma County.
Seghesio Family Vineyards was established in 1895 when Italian immigrant and winemaker Edoardo Seghesio planted his first Zinfandel vineyard in what is now Seghesio’s Home Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley.
Edoardo and his wife Angela continued to tend their vineyards through Prohibition and were one of approximately 100 wineries to survive that era. Post-prohibition, Seghesio was a key supplier of grapes and bulk wine to large California wineries.
The modern era saw fourth generation Ted Seghesio make the first wines under the Seghesio label inthe early 1980s. Under the leadership and guidance of Ted and his cousin Pete, Seghesio Family Vineyards has become renowned for exceptional Zinfandels and Italian varietals.
In 2011 Seghesio Family Vineyards joined Crimson Wine Group, a company committed to crafting benchmark wines from premier growing regions. Today, Andy Robinson is at the helm in the cellar. Having worked alongside Ted Seghesio for nearly 20 years, Andy became Winemaker in 2015. Demonstrating excellence and leadership in winegrowing, fifth generation Seghesio Family member Ned Neumiller serves as Grower Relations & Viticulture Manager. Ned is a 2018 recipient of Sonoma County"s "Outstanding Young Person in Agriculture" award and serves on the board of directors for Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley.

The Wines!!
Willakenzie Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, 2017 $22.99
All stainless, no malolactic and widely available distribution make this a pure-blooded warm weather go-to white wine. It"s young and still a bit yeasty, aromatic with scents of seeds and grains. Tightly wound fruit flavors of apple and green melon come with good depth and texture.
Mercer Reserve Chardonnay, Horse Heaven Hills, 2015 $32.99
Barrel fermentation and sur lie aging has created a Chardonnay that is both elegant and robust. Flavors of caramelized apricots in a honey glaze, dusted with saffron and served with vanilla bean ice cream continue through the finish.
Erath Resplendent Pinot Noir, Oregon, 2015 $19.99
Luscious loganberry, Bing cherry and rising bread dough waft forth with a pleasing hint of caramel and aromatic sandalwood. The smooth, weighty palate offers cherry candy, pomegranate, candied orange peel and a touch of anise concluding with a nicely uplifting finish."
Drumheller Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley , 2015 $14.99
The aromas of plum and blue fruit bring appeal but don"t seem entirely varietal. Flavors are sweet, backed by lightly tacky-feeling tannins. It delivers easy-drinking enjoyment, though characteristics of the variety seems hard to find.
K Vintners Motor City Kitty Syrah, Washington State, 2015 $39.99
With all the depth and richness you"ve come to expect from this single vineyard bottling - black cherry, earth, roasted meat, even charcoal abounds add dried herb. A thread of minerality and it all comes together in an exact and generous expression that speaks volumes as to why Washington Syrah is great!

Amber in color, this beer has a strong, dense white head with great retention. You will detect pleasant aromas of caramel and honey with a good balance of malt and fruity notes. Evil Twin Even More Pecan Pie Jesus Imperial Stout $4 pack $18.99
Imperial Stout brewed with Molasses and with Pecan Extract added A few times in the history of craft beer a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. People – this is the taste of rare!

The Wines!!
BERTHET-RAYNE CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE BLANC 2017
100% Certified Biodynamic Rare and very elegant wine, it is pale yellow with some green nuances. It expresses a subtle floral, well-balanced and fresh bouquet. This wine has scents of ripe grapes, fennel, honey, anise, green olive, gun flint, and plenty more. Very complex in flavors, and quite rich on the palate.
The Wine Advocate 90 FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
The medium to full-bodied 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is an easy-drinking blend of 40% Bourboulenc, 30% Clairette and 10% each Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. Melon and citrus flavors finish clean and fresh. To drink in the next year or two.
BERTHET-RAYNE CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE "FUT DE CHENE" 2015
100% ORGANIC CERTIFIED BIO_DYNAMIC Hints of sweetness, black fruits and herbs in tandem. Serious, intense and powerful - perfumes and textures from Mediterranean, weight, balance and potential.
The Wine Advocate 93 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
I was impressed by all of the wines I tasted from this domaine. The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Fut de Chene spends 18 months in a mix of demi-muids and used barrels, but it doesn"t come across as oaky. Instead, the blend of 65% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 5% Counoise offers attractive herbal-spice notes and ripe raspberries on the nose, followed by a creamy-supple palate and a long, spice-driven finish.
DOMAINE LA ROUBINE GIGONDAS 2016
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and Mourvèdre
Some vanilla notes on the nose from oak ageing; tannic and full-bodied with powerful expression of Grenache. Suppleness, spices and red fruits are brought by the Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The long finish is reminiscent of fleshy dense fruits. Enjoy with beef or pork dishes, BBQ, and hearty cheeses.
Vinous - Antonio Galloni 90 FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE - "2016 Gigondas – A Slam Dunk"
Bright ruby. Smoke-accented cherry and red berry scents are complicated by a floral note that builds slowly with air. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry and cherry flavors that deepen steadily with air. Shows very good clarity and repeating Florality on the clinging finish, which is framed by smooth tannins.
DOMAINE LA ROUBINE VACQUEYRAS 2015
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre
Glass-staining ruby. Spicy red berries and flowers on the nose, with suggestions of anise and garrigue adding complexity. Nervy, precise raspberry and wild strawberry flavors show a touch of sweetness, with a spicy note of white pepper providing lift. The youthfully tart finish shows raspberry and a refreshingly bitter pomegranate nuance.
The Wine Advocate 91 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre, the 2015 Vacqueyras can go toe to toe with this domaine"s Gigondas. It"s loaded with rosemary-scented garrigue and mixed berry fruit and boasts a creamy, lush texture to the medium to full-bodied mid-palate, ending with some firm tannins on the finish. Give it another year or two of bottle age and drink it over the next 5 years or so.
DOMAINE DU TUNNEL SAINT JOSEPH 2016
Bright ruby. Zesty red and dark berry aromas are complemented by notes of cracked pepper, black tea and smoky minerals. Racy, tightly wound black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors become sweeter with air and are framed by silky tannins. Finishes tangy, focused and persistent, with a stony quality.
The Wine Advocate NA FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
Robert owns 2.5 hectares around Tournon, Mauves and Glun, where he sourced his 2016 Saint Joseph. Tasted from tank just prior to bottling, it shows bold fruit allied to fine purity. Ripe black cherry fruit is framed by silky tannins. (92-93pts)
Vinous - Antonio Galloni 91 FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
Bright violet. Smoke- and mineral-accented cherry and dark berry scents are complicated by hints of olive and licorice. Supple and broad on the palate, offering pliant blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter and livelier with air. A suave floral pastille note appears on the clinging finish, which shows very good clarity and gentle, even tannins.
DOMAINE DES LISES CROZES HERMITAGE 2015
Maxime Graillot is the son of famed Crozes-Hermitage pioneer Alain Graillot. Maxime has been producing Crozes-Hermitage since 2004. Compared to Alain’s wines, Maxime’s are similarly exuberant and expressive, yet perhaps with a bit more size and fruit power to them. Unlike his father, Maxime Graillot choses to de-stems nearly all of his grapes. On the basis of the first couple of vintages - produced in admittedly small quantities - the Domaine des Lises Crozes shares the purity, spiciness and crunchy fruit character of his father"s wines, but with a slightly fuller and more opulent mouthfeel. They are immediate winners.
Wine Spectator 92 FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
This is well-packed, with flavors of juicy blackberry and boysenbserry preserves underscored by a racy graphite note. Lots of anise and fruitcake elements sparkle through the finish. Drink now through 2024
