Dear Subscriber

Well it"s....
the End of summer vacation as children go back to school

the End of this crazy hot weather (I know I am being  hopeful here)

and most importantly after this weekend the End of Pre-Season Football!

Is it me or were this year’s games exceptionally lame?
So once again as the season starts I am hoping for a Patriots vs Redskins Superbowl! I know it’s a fantasy but you got to have hope! Right?!?

Anyway we have two wonderful tastings planned all weekend as we enjoy the last great grilling weekend (officially) of summer. Along with great wines we will sample a great array of beers that will quench your thirst while tickle your palate!

We will be open to serve
your needs from

Friday Evening Wine & Beer Tasting

 5:00 - 8:00 p.m

The Wines with Steve

Lima Vinho Verde 2017
Blend of Loureiro and Trajadura grapes.  Fresh, crisp, lively with a touch of spritz.  Interesting aromas of stone fruit, lime, juicy green apple and crisp pear

Chateau D. Aqueria Tavel Rose 2017
Vibrant salmon-coral in color; this wine is bone dry, full-bodied and full of fruit on the palate, with the lusciousness and depth that have made the wines of Tavel famous.

Ironside Reserve Pinot Noir 2016
Dark black cherry hued; red fruit, herbal nosed; a plethora of fruit notes on the palate: red raspberry, cherry palated and way too sweet until it opens to mute the sweetness with herbs to complement the palate and lead to a pleasant linger.

Salentein Numina Gran Corte 2014
Bright purple, vivacious wine endowed with depth and intensity. It has a fresh and sweet nose with a prevalence of red fruits like redcurrant and touches of black fruits in the background; a spark of violet adds a floral character. The fruit returns on the palate with a deliciously fresh profile which finishes full with traces of spice.

    Friday the Beers with Steve

Erdinger
Hefe-Weizen

Pours slightly hazy, gold in color, with one inch head. Taste is big white bread, grain, and bananas. Light bodied, high carbonation and sweet. Makes for a good sessionable hefe

Brown Sugar
Cow Mocha Brown Ale

Cloudy, orange-brown appearance. Yeast and coffee aromas. Flavor matches, with a sweet, nutty finish. Flavor lingers for quite a while. Mild amount of carbonation. ABV 6.6 %

Avery Brewing Co. Boulder, CO
Vanilla Bean Stout, Bourbon barrel aged stout.

A double dose of vanilla derived from both fresh Bourbon barrels and the trio of Tongan, Ugandan, and Mexican whole vanilla beans is complemented by essences of chocolate, caramel and molasses to round out this luxuriously silky stout. ABV = 10.8%

Saturday Afternoon Wine & Beer Tasting
1:00 - 5:00 pm

The Wines with Max

Lora White, Sauvignon Blanc (2017)
Lora is a blend of certified organic Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from one of the cooler parts of La Mancha (high upon the plateau not too far from the UNESCO heritage city of Cuenca). Bright citrus fruits combine with stone fruits and hintsof melon, with crisp mineral tones and loads of personality. The winemaker and person who carefully sources this great organic fruit is none other than our friend Miguel Merino Navajas, son of Miguel Merino of Rioja fame!

Lora Red, Tempranillo & Syrah (2016)
A harmonic combination of Tempranillo and Syrah with a touch of Merlot. Bright ruby-coloured, this wine has an excellent nose of violets, black cherry and earth notes. Its ageing in oak barrels gives the wine spicy aromas such as vanilla, pepper and toasty notes. On the palate it is soft and silky, delicate and round, with great balance between fruit, oak and spiciness.

Aríos Aguafuerte, Alvarinho (2016)
Arios Aguafuerte offers intense floral and fruity aromas with hints of lemon. Rich tropical fruits, the zesty acidity combines nicely with the citrus and green apple notes, persistent on the finish. It is a perfect sea food pairing wine, it will also complement well fish and chips, the acidity from the wine will go straight through the bettered fish.

Miguel Merino, Rioja Viñas Jóvenes (2014)
A longtime participant in the wine business, Miguel decided that rather than retire, he wanted to fulfill his dream of owning vines and making wine. Based in the Rioja Alta town of Briones, Miguel Merino makes, as he likes to put it, an "updated classic" style of Rioja, all from his own 2 hectares of vines and several hectares of vineyards owned by a close friend. Sourced from comparably younger, (20 year old) vines (viñas jovenes in Spanish), this is still a complex wine A beautiful, translucent ruby color, there are deep, dark cherry aromas leading to a very concentrated, pure, intense, cherry fruited palate.

Miguel Merino, Rioja Reserva (2011)
Produced from vines planted in the 1960s, this is a perfect example of Miguel"s "updated classic" description: garnet yet translucent color, deep, savory, meaty dark fruit and black cherry aromas and a very juicy palate of blackberry and black cherry fruit. Rich, and yet perfectly balanced. Drink now and for another decade plus.

Saturday the Beers with Nate

Two Juicy is an unfiltered, cloudy “New England style Double IPA” that uses generous amounts of Hallertauer Blanc, Citra & Mandarina Bavaria hops. The result is a
 things here, Love this beer!

It"s all about the Beer.......

Goodbye August, Hello September!

Summer may be over soon...but good things are coming for the Fall at The Wine Cabinet! We’ve got a variety of beers that came in just this week, ranging from Belgian style ales to flavorful stouts to IPAs, and even Pumpkin ales (for our friends who can’t wait for Fall festivities).

Wild Wolf Brewing Co. Nellysford, VA
 Area 151,

Belgian style ale brewed with blackberries. Area 151 is named for our location on Highway 151. This Belgian style ale has REAL blackberries added during fermentation, giving the beer a beautiful color. We filter 151 prior to packaging to add a crispness and to help bring the fruit forward. At Wild Wolf, we think beer first, fruit second! ABV = 7.0%

Evolution Craft Brewing Co. Salisbury, MD
 Lot No. 3 IPA.

This American style IPA is aggressively hopped at a rate of over 2 lbs. per barrel. Big notes of citrus and pine complement a reserved but firm malt backbone. ABV = 6.8%

 Brasserie Dubuisson Belgium
Cuvee Des Trolls, Belgian Strong Ale.

The Cuvée des Trolls was created in 2000 in the tanks of microbrewery Le Brasse-Temps, which was established in Louvain-la-Neuve by Brasserie Dubuisson.  It is an unfiltered blonde beer with a natural cloud. The beer is produced using only yeast, malt, hops, sugar and water.  Thanks to the addition of dried orange peel during the boiling process, the beer has very pleasant fruity aromas that are in beautiful harmony with its delicate, fully rounded taste. ABV = 7.5%

 Smuttynose Brewing Co. (Hampton, NH
 Pumpkin Ale.

Since 2003, we’ve brewed Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale with real pumpkin and a blend of classic pumpkin pie spices in tribute to our colonial forebearers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins have been found from early European settlers in New England, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and “pompions.”  ABV 6.5%

Left Hand Brewing Co. Longmont, CO
 A Blessing & A Curse, DIPA.

This double IPA delivers a synthesis of hops from opposite hemispheres with an aggressive disposition of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit characteristics for a delightfully juxtaposed consequence. Count your blessings, accept the curse.  ABV = 9.5%

Southern Tier New York
Pumking

This beer gives off hints of pumpkin pie and spice aromas on the nose. Huge flavors of genuine pumpkin pie, nutmeg, and cinnamon come through. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, yet crisp. It"s like eating a whole pumpkin pie! ABV 8.6%

Southern Tier New York
Warlock American Double/Imperial Stout

Imperial stout brewed with pumpkins for a deep brown almost black pour and aromas of graham cracker, vanilla, nutmeg and hints of chocolate. Sweet flavors with a nice roast and notes of creamy chocolate and mild coffee. AVB 10%
