Dear Subscriber

The Simple Joys of Summer! at
The Wine Cabinet!

Since July 5, 1946, women have been hitting the beaches and poolsides in bikinis.
National Bikini Day marks the anniversary of the invention of the revealing two-piece bathing suit.

Named after the Bikini Atoll where the United States conducted atomic tests, the two piece bathing suit made its debut in Paris.
French designer Louis Reard wanted to name revealing bits of fabric “atom”.

Sunbathers were wearing modest two-piece suits by World Wart II in the United States, but they hardly revealed the amount of skin the bikini revealed on July 5, 1946. While Europe enthusiastically donned the bikini after a long and arduous world war, American’s puritanical sense of decency kept them from accepting the bikini until the 1960"s.

We hope and trust that you had an enjoyable and safe Independence Day celebration. Ours was better than usual. I didn"t burn any of the grilled items; the wine selections were a hit and everyone made it to Key Bridge in good time to see all of the fireworks from the Mall.

Last week was very good for our patrons it seems. You took great advantage of the 20% Fourth of July Sale. It was so good, we may have to make it a tradition and do it every year prior to the holiday!! Let me know, if you think so too.

Quite a few of you are at the beach, I understand. Wish I was with you!! It won"t be long. We"ll look forward to seeing the rest of you in the shop this weekend!!

Tell all your friends about us!!

Friday: Kysela Imports, Melissa Graeff: Melissa is relatively new to The Wine Cabinet, but she is very well known by Steve Mosteiro, our associate. We think she"s going to be a very nice addition to our already great array of distributor reps. Please come by and introduce yourself!!

Saturday:Republic National, Jim FutrellJim represents one of the largest portfolios in the area and always manages to bring good wines at great value to our attention. The wines on this week"s tasting table are below the price from the winery! Check it out yourself!!

The Beer Shelves: I was working without any guidance this weekend - both Rande and Natalie are out of hand while they recreate - so if you"re not happy with the selections this weekend, it"s all on me!!
Do me a favor though, let me know what you think so I can improve. I know you"re not shy!

Call or message us on Facebook, if we can put something aside for you before they"re all gone!

The Wines!!

Chateau Suau Bordeaux Blanc $12.99
This wine reveals complex aromas of honeysuckle, citrus and pineapple. It"s refreshing and expressive. An excellent depth of fruit as well as a long finish with a nice acidity.
A very fresh bouquet for this dry white wine that shows a beautiful harmony between the exotic and white fruits. In the mouth, the Sauvignon brings power and character, while the Semillon brings a juicy and flavorful finish.

Alain de la Treille Rose" $13.99
This dry Rosé is a blend of 40% Gamay, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Pinot Noir. It is very aromatic with tons of fresh strawberry and watermelon type of flavors. The fruitiness is very elegant and the finish is nice and balanced.
MAISON ALAIN DE LA TREILLE is located in the heart of Loire Valley since 1885. Vineyards owner and winemaker, ALAIN DE LA TREILLE creates diverse and delicate wines on the most prestigious vineyards: Muscadet, Touraine, Vouvray, Sancerre.

Alain Jaume Haut de Brun Cotes du Rhone $14.99
The color is purple-tinged garnet. The nose displays aromas of fresh berries (wild raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry) and hints of spices. The palate is big and full-flavored, with silky-smooth tannins. The finish reveals touches of liquorice, garrigue and black pepper. A Côtes du Rhône with great complexity for an everyday drinking.

A classic Rhône to drink between 1 and 4 years. Best poured at 17°C.

Domaine de la Mordoree" La Remise $17.99
Color : deep red
Aromas : red fruits and black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant) and flowers (violet, peony).
Palate : nice mouth feel, nice freshness
Drink within 4 to 5 years.
With its exceptional resistance to oxidation (due to Marselan) this wine will remain pleasant for a long time after opening the bottle.

Chateau Bellevue Cotes de Castillon Cuvee" Veilles Vignes $18.99
The wine offers a rich and intense bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and strawberry. It is smooth and full in the mouth with a velvety texture. Acidity combined with firm but well-integrated tannins are a fine supporting cast to the black fruit flavors at the end.

The Beers!!

Ardent German Style Pilsner 4 pack $12.99

5% ABV •   36 IBU
A golden straw, clear pilsner with classic lager aroma that is clean and bready, with light grassiness from 100% Hallertauer mittelfrüh noble hops. Medium body and high carbonation accentuate the soft bitterness, malty sweetness and mild fruitiness. Ardent Pilsner is a crisp, refreshing German-style pils that finishes dry and clean with a creamy, long-lasting head that leaves rich lacing.

Collective Arts, Liquid Art Fest IPA, Mango, Vanilla, Passionfruit 4 pack $18.99

Done as part of the annual art fest to highlight up and coming artists.
Tons of mango, apricot, peach, and passion fruit. Tastes fairly sour thanks to the fruits, with some ripe fruit sweetness as well. The malt is barely there, except for a creamy dough/white bread presence. Hints of vanilla and lactose, but they are subdued. Finishes lightly dry with some mild weedy dankness. Just a light hint of astringent yeasty off-flavor lingers.

Firestone Under Currant Wild Ale, Bottle $14.99

6.3% ABV 4.26 BeerAdvocate
In 2018 we challenged ourselves to using an array of fruit new to our palettes and practices. When offered a high quality freshly picked Black Currant sample, we couldn’t resist. We present to you a metamorphosis for your senses.  Using 12 to 36month aged Agrestic Ale as a base, to which we add 1.5lbs/gal Black Currants, the beer undergoes the final maturation in our French Oak “Fruiders” for an additional four months.  A convergence of supple tannin and deep purple pigments, gooseberry jam, a mouth-watering acidity and earthy leather elicit notes of a beer having vinous roots.  A new variant to one of the Barrelworks pioneers is born. Santé!

Chateau D"Aqueria Rose" $18.99

92 POINTS Wine Advocate 2016 vintage
TOP 100 VALUE WINES 2017
Wine Spectator 2016 vintage

Grapes of exceptional quality from a noble terroir allow Château d’Aquéria to craft a quintessential Tavel, widely appreciated as the finest wine of its appellation. Grapes are handpicked from Château d’Aquéria’s own vineyards, which span 163 acres across the sandy slopes of Tavel. The mesoclimate is ideal for cultivating Grenache and crafting crisp, fresh rosé wines. Using its cutting-edge weather station located in the heart of the vineyards, Château d’Aquéria precisely monitors weather conditions and adjusts vineyard practices accordingly. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed, followed by a maceration to extract color. The grapes are then pressed and each variety is vinified separately, undergoing temperature-controlled maceration and fermentation in stainless steel vats. The wines see no malolactic fermentation and no oak contact. The winemaker assembles an initial blend in November and then a second blending takes place in January before bottling.

Kim Crawford Small Vineyard Pinot Noir, Otago $24.99
When flavor is at the core of your philosophy, grapes become the defining factor in ensuring excellent wine. Our Philosophy on making good wine is simple:
focus on flavor.
