Dear Subscriber

Today is 10 May, 2018

at
The Wine Cabinet

First and foremost, our hearty congratulations to Haley Jenus, Rande"s incredible daughter! Graduating with Honors from LSU in a pre-med major. Kate, Rande and I will all be on hand in Baton Rouge for the festivities. Wouldn"t miss it for the world! Thankfully, we have an extremely competent staff (the last time we were all gone, you seem to have liked them better!) that allows us to celebrate in style!! There may be a party or two on the streets of the French Quarter as well.

Yes, the Caps ditched the curse of the Penguins and are moving on to the Conference Finals for the first time since 1998!!
And did it shorthanded!!
Reason to celebrate as well!!

And to all of the Mothers on the mailing list - thank you for all that you do. Ever since the Romans would only allow women to own land, we have recognized that you are the backbone of our culture and the only safe harbor in times of need. While there have been missteps in the opportunities that you have been afforded at times, by and large, no one is loved more.

Another reason to celebrate!!

CAPTURE

TRADITION
Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Mayacamas Mountains, California

This wine brings together Old World elegance and New World Flavor!

Captûre marries the notions of tradition and discovery, adapting classic Bordelais winemaking methods and customs to the rich history and frontier spirit of those who first farmed Sonoma County’s unknown mountains more than a century ago.

91 Points - The Wine Enthusiast

"Pea shoots and a faraway lawn provide a fresh inspiring of springtime in this stainless-steel fermented white that"s lovely and fully expressive on the palate. Jasmine notes are joined by tastes of apricot and peach, while tropical breezes blow by."

90 Points - Antonio Gallani, Vinous

"The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Tradition is intensely floral and aromatic, with tons of varietal character. The Tradition is aged in steel, but lees stirring adds striking texture throughout. Citrus peel, lime, sage and white flowers notes give the 2016 a decidedly exotic feel.

Our Thoughts.........

This wine is like sweet grass after a rain, aromatic, light
with a hint of honey. Aromas of citrus, flowers and fruity ripe strawberries lead to flavors of pear, peach, honeydew melon, green apple and lemon. A hint of sweetness and almond extends the clean, fresh finish!

A Bit about Capture........

The Captûre motto is "classic Bordeaux winemaking in the rugged Mayacamas Mountains". Established in 2008, Captûre is working in remote high-elevation vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, and Lake Counties. Captûre targets vineyards within Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Spring Mountain District, and Lake County, all appellations at the untamed edges of mainstream wine regions, and ones that see more wildlife visitors than human ones. The flagship label is the Tradition Sauvignon Blanc, it’s stainless steel fermented and aged on its lees for ten months. The style is bright with citrus, lime pith and peach and just that hint of richness that comes from the California sun. The fruit is 76/24 Sonoma County/Lake County.

The winery, originally founded by Denis and May-Britt Malbec, who made wine at Chateau Latour in the 1990s, came under the ownership of Barbara Banke in 2014. Banke and her winemaking team continue to make Bordeaux- and Rhone-style wines from vineyards along the Mayacamas Mountains, north of Santa Rosa.

Friday Tasting

The Country Vintner presents
Zenato Vineyards, Verona Italy
Margot Blatmann

 5:00 - 8:00 p.m

The Vineyards!!
The Soul of Lugana and the Heart of Valpolicella.

The heart and soul of Zenato lies in the ancient morainic lands of Lugana and Valpolicella, with their mild climate and unrivalled charm, that overlook the Veneto shore of Lake Garda.

The vineyards cover 75 hectares in the Zenato estate of S. Cristina in San Benedetto di Lugana, ideal for the Trebbiano di Lugana, and in the Costalunga estate in Valpolicella, the homeland of the famous Amarone Zenato, where the renowned vines Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta are cultivated.

It all began in 1960 when Sergio Zenato, filled with energy and ambition and driven by his deep bond with the territory, tried out new techniques of wine making and invested in native vines in order to obtain wine of the highest quality.
Today, his wife Carla, together with their children Alberto and Nadia, continues to pursue Sergio’s great enterprise with the same enthusiasm, tenacity and infinite dedication, making the excellence of Zenato"s wines known in more than 60 countries of the world.
In this way, the soul of Lugana and the heart of Valpolicella continue to expand their borders.

The Wines!!

Pinot Grigio $12.99

Lemon-green in color, aromas of Key limes and white peaches complement undertones of green apples and grains of paradise. On the palate, it is smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish.

Bardolino Chiaretto Rose" $14.99

65% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Molinara.

This wine is produced in the zone overlooking the southeast coast of Garda lake, between Bardolino and Peschiera; the pink colour derives from the partial contact with the skins of red Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes.

Excellent with hors d’oeuvres, first courses and white meat.

Alanera Rosso Veronese $16.99

50% Corvina and 50% Merlot

Cormì indicates not only the unity of two varieties Corvina and Merlot, but also stands as an abbreviation for “Cor – Cuore”: the Cormì is a wine born from the hearth before than the earth.

Ideal with typical Mediterranean dishes, roasted and grilled meat, salami.

Valpolicella $19.99

 85% Corvina Veronese, 10% Rondinella, 5% Corvinone.

This classic wine from the Valpolicella area is made from Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone grapes. The shades of almond and violet are outstanding, with a structure that enables this wine to age for several years.

Pasta with different sauces, white meat, roasted or grilled.

Ripassa $29.99
85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta.

This wine is closely connected to the greatest wine of Valpolicella: Amarone. After pressing the dried grapes from which Amarone is made, the Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm marc of Amarone. A second alcoholic fermentation begins which increases the alcoholic content and the wine becomes richer in colour, bouquet

Excellent companion to game dishes, grilled meat and roasts, salami and aged cheeses.

Salt of the Earth formed in 2011 as a partnership between an expert Moscato grower, a veteran Moscato winemaker, and a visionary winery owner to produce uncompromising Moscato for the very best value.

Cool stream of citrus and peaches tickles your tongue and enlivens your evenings. Our Salt of the Earth Flore de Moscato is made at summer’s end by crushing the highest quality Muscat grapes. The juices are slightly fermented in steel tanks and quickly chilled to retain their delectable sugar and natural spritz. Made solely with Orange Muscat and Muscat Canelli grapes, Salt of the Earth Flore de Moscato is distinctive and refreshing – truly unlike any other Moscato. Enjoy it accompanied by fruit, cheeses, BBQ, roast beef, or other savory and spicy foods.
Flore has a little bit of spritz and is a favorite addition at gatherings large and small.

“Bright medium light gold color. Lively, fun, grassy fruity aromas of dried kumquat, dried straw, and lemon oil with a chewy, puckering, moderately sweet medium-full body and a peppery, short finish with fruit tannins and no oak.” –World Value Wine Challenge, Best Buy, 93 points
