The Wine Cabinet

Yes, of course, we"re OPEN TODAY!!

Well, we made to 2018 and no worse for the wear, as far as I can tell. 2017 may not have been everyone"s favorite year, but we continue to see the sun rise each day and we have the opportunity to make our future what we wish it to be. What more could we ask.

For the many patrons who have inquired about Dave and how he"s doing - He"s as happy as I have ever seen him! In a training program at Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan (New York, not Kansas) a Michelin Star restaurant. If you happen to be in the Big Apple, take the time to get to the Lower Eastside and say hello. I know he"s always happy yo see friendly faces!

We have an exciting, if bone-chilling weekend ahead of us, but we also have Shore Boys Soups to help keep warm.

We"ll look forward to seeing you!!

Always Drink Responsibly.

It all starts Tonight with  Open Bottle Thursday!

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Bodega Norton Privada is a ruby red color of remarkable intensity.
This wine has excellent aromatic complexity with notes of ripe black and red fruit, and a fine touch of smoky coffee. It"s soft, full and rich on the palate with an excellent balance, length and concentration.

About Bodega Norton..........

1895

Edmund James Palmer Norton first set eyes on Mendoza countryside during the construction of a train line that joined Mendoza and Chile. Very impressed by the terroir, he founded Bodega Norton, south of the Mendoza River, with a plantation of vines imported from France.

1989 The Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski bought Bodega Norton after sensing the great potential of Argentina to influence the world scene. Struck by the beauty of the area and the optimal conditions for growing grapes, he chose Bodega Norton because it was the only traditional winery surrounded by its own vineyard.

.

1991 Gernot Langes-Swarovski’s son, Michael Halstrick, initiated a new phase, aided by significant investments, modernization and growth, that would prepare them for their big international expansion.

During the 90’s Bodega Norton started exporting high quality wines, becoming one of the first wineries to develop export markets.

The People........One of the chief values of Bodega Norton is taking care of its human resources. Not just because its 350 employees are the real potential of the company, but because all of them bring to life the winery and its wine. This value was recognized in 2010 by the consulting firm Great Place to Work, which ranks the best companies in which to work: Norton was amongst the first companies (ranked 13), and was the only Winery to appear in this ranking.

Three key figures in the winery:

MICHAEL HALSTRICK - PRESIDENT & CEO

Austrian-born, adopted by Mendoza. Business manager, and Bodega Norton CEO since 1991.

JORGE RICCITELLI - CHIEF WINEMAKER

(61 years) a winemaker with a lifetime of experience working in renowned wineries. From the classic Gargantini in the early sixties to Etchart Cafayate Winery, where he played a central role in the domestic and international growth of the company. Since 1992 he has been Norton´s Chief Winemaker.

PABLO MINATELLI- VINEYARD MANAGER

(41 years) is an Agronomist with extensive background in investigative research. He has been with the company since 1997, and currently holds the position of Production Manager, giving him responsibility over the 700 ha of Norton´s Vineyards.

The Wines!!

Muscadet, Alain de la Treille $ 11.99
This great dry white wine offers a unique style with a fine and delicate minerality... Beautiful tension on the palate followed by hints of flower, melon and lime, that finishes with a refreshing crispness.

MAISON ALAIN DE LA TREILLE is located in the heart of Loire Valley since 1885. Vineyards owner and winemaker, ALAIN DE LA TREILLE creates diverse and delicate wines on the most prestigious vineyards.

Domaine de Croix Sennalaillet, Macon-Davaye $17.99
Pale brilliant yellow color. Fresh nose of citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit). Mineral and salty notes on the palate. Fresh, supple and harmonious in the mouth.

Domaine Manoir Du Carra "Brouilly" $17.99

90 points The Wine Enthusiast
Deep red ruby colored wine with red fruit aromas of strawberry, raspberry and floral notes of violet. Ample in the mouth, supple tannins.

Chateau Castegens, Cote de Bordeaux $17.99

88 points The Wine Enthusiast
Intense and deep vivace red color.
Nose with black fruit, blackberry, cigar box, licorice, some delicate and integrated oak flavors as well.
In the mouth, we have an explosion of fruit flavors, spice and fine wood. The structure is rich, but the tannins are well integrated already. The finish is long and a slight mintiness give the wine a great length and some purity.

Chateau Trois Moulins, Haut Medoc $22.99
A flour mill just nearby explains the origin of this cru bourgeois’ name, which means “three mills”. Already in its day, it attracted English and Dutch connoisseurs. History continues for this ruby-colored, subtle wine with its elegant bouquet of jammy red fruits. It is subtle and very round on the palate and has a long powerful finish.

Made from 52% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.

The Wines!!

DeMorgenzon DMZ Sauvignon Blanc $15.99
This wine has a pale, bright gold colour with green reflections. Upfront aromatics of passion fruit and citrus greet the nose following through to a rich palate yielding ripe fruit flavours with a gentle nettle edge. A brisk acidity and stony minerality give natural freshness and length.

4 Stars Platter"s Wine Guide

DeMorgenzon DMZ Chardonnay $16.99
This wine shows sweet vanilla and hints of almonds on the nose with a clean tropical fruit finish. Delicate oak flavours support a rich and full fruit flavour in the mouth with layers of white peach, apricot, grapefruit and vanilla.

4 Stars Platter"s Wine Guide

DeMorgenzon DMZ Syrah $16.99
Deep, purple core. Rich, berry fruit nose with lots of ripe, red plum and whiffs of white pepper. Some floral notes in the background, including violets, lavender and spring blossoms. Full in the mouth with tremendous youthful vigour. Layers of berry fruit with developing spices of pepper, cinnamon, clove and vanilla. Gentle oak integration shows and supports the elegance and roundness at this early age.

Silver Medal International Wine Challenge

Warwick Pinotage Old Bush Vines $22.99
Mellow, rich berries, red cherries
Succulent, concentrated berry flavours, vanilla

Ferreira Tawny Port $16.99
