Dear Subscriber

Today is 12 October

at

The Wine Cabinet

As you all probably know at this point, I"m a fanatic for baseball. The Nationals managed to avoid elimination from this years playoffs with an unbelievable pitching performance from Steven Strasburg and a grand slam home run form Michael A. Taylor at Wrigley Field in Chicago last night.

Their work is not done.
They need a win tonight or the season is over. We need all of the positive vibes you can generate!! Get your favorite beer or wine and get yourself to a place where you can watch this game at 8:00 tonight!!
(We"ll be closing just in time!! First Pitch 8:08)

A lot of new wines and beers in the shop and a great weekend of events ahead of us.
Saturday, in particular should be great fun -
we have friends from the new Greek Restaurant at Seneca and Route 7 - Our Mom Eugenia - joining us with a great sampling of their food
AND
we might have a cameo list from Till Mackie-Haas, JUMI Cheese, Bern Switzerland.

Who could stay away??

And that leads me to the great values that Kate has in gift ware! Halloween  goods are out and available.
As in past years, everything is moving quickly, so do not delay!!

Don"t forget that we can chill a bottle for your arrival if you give us a call.

And we"re more than happy to match up wines and dinner menus!! And we love doing it!!

Have a great weekend!! And stay up to date with us on Facebook!

Always Drink Responsibly.

It all starts Tonight with  Open Bottle Thursday!

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

This Pinot Noir displays a lovely garnet, ruby color with a nice smokiness in the nose that gives way to aromas of blackberry and big red cherry. This Pinot Noir has juicy acidity and flavors of raspberry, plum and a hint of white pepper. The mouthfeel is elegant and polished with a long, velvety finish. Enjoy this wine now to 5 years. Food Pairing Gisele pairs well with a variety of foods. It is delicious with charcuterie, cheeses, grilled fish, roasted poultry, and grilled vegetables and my favorite mushroom risotto!

The Story in their Words…..

Passion for Pinot with a Sense of Place is what defines Willakenzie Estate, a family owned winery located in the heart of the Willamette Valley. The winery is named after the sedimentary soil on which the vines are planted to reflect the ultimate expression of “terroir”.
After a successful career in high tech founder Bernard Lacroute decided to return to his Burgundian roots and purchased the 420 acre cattle farm in 1991. Planting started in 1992 and the first wine was made in 1995 in the newly built gravity winery.
Ronni and Bernard decided to settle in Oregon because they believe that it is the best region in North America where Pinot Noir can be made in a style which parallels the great wines of Burgundy.
Following in our founders footsteps, we at WillaKenzie remain committed to wines which reflect the place on which the grapes are grown, sustainable farming, clean winemaking, small production of Vineyard Designated Pinots, respect of the environment and of the people who work in the vineyards and winery—all while supporting the community in which we live.

LIVE Certified Sustainable Wine and Grapes & Salmon Safe
Healthy Soil = Healthy Vines

Sustainable farming practices that respect the environment, soil, plants, and people are another expression of our commitment to genuine quality. To promote healthy soil, we use compost, kelp, and cover crops, and encourage beneficial organisms such as earthworms and fungi. To maintain the health of our vines, we use organic fertilizers and fungicides rather than synthetic chemicals. No herbicides are used. Sustainable viticulture is extremely labor intensive—we employ a dedicated vineyard crew year round, who touch each of the more than 200,000 vines on our estate at least 24 times annually, further ensuring consistency and quality. The benefits far outweigh the extra work. Our wines better reflect our soils and our clonal diversity through absorption of soil minerals, and contain fewer residual chemicals. The longevity of the soil is greatly enhanced, and our workers’ exposure to chemicals is minimized.
L.I.V.E. partners with Salmon-Safe to restore and maintain healthy watersheds. Salmon-Safe is an independent nonprofit devoted to restoring agricultural and urban watersheds so that salmon can spawn and thrive. Native salmon are a key species within the Pacific Northwest and their conservation is closely intertwined with the health of our larger ecosystem.

In the mouth, the Sauvignon brings power and character, Semillon brings a juicy and flavorful finish and Muscadelle brings roundness.

2015 Chartron et Trebuchet, Macon-Villages Chardonnay $18.99

The Vacqueyras appellation is located right next to Gigondas. It mostly stretches on the Sarrians territory, where stands the famous plateau named “Les Garrigues”. The area is made of clay and rocks. The beautiful “garrigue” landscape is typical of the Mediterranean area. The wine itself displays aromas of spices, dried herbs...you will taste the “Garrigue” in your glass.
Welcome to Provence!
Deep and intense color. Aromas of fresh black fruits and dried herbs. On the palate, the richness of the tannins harmonizes with the smoothness of the wine. The finish is long, with spice aromas and licorice.
A typical wine from the specific terroir called "Les Garrigues".
