Today is September 21

The Wine Cabinet
As much as I hate to admit overlooking something of importance, I have to say that had two (not one) snafus last week.
First, It was Rande"s birthday last Friday and it was a decade buster, so it was a big one. Forgot to make a big deal out of it, so when you him this weekend, remind him!!
Second, and perhaps of more concern because it could get all of us in trouble - last Sunday was Wife Appreciation Day!! Who knew?!?! As it says up above, Happy wife, Happy life!! Truer words have never been spoken. So if you haven"t been properly appreciative, make up for lost time and get her favorite bottle of wine and show her how much you appreciate all the things your spouse does to make your life a bit happier. Get to it!!
Speaking of wine, we have another great red for Open Bottle this week!!
Cenyth is a wine that suite any special occasion and make those midweek dinners feel special.
Come and try it!!
And that leads me to the great values that Kate has in gift ware! Halloween goods are out and available. If past years are an indicator the goods won"t last too far into October, so do not delay!!
We look forward to seeing you this weekend!!
Don"t forget that we can chill a bottle for your arrival if you give us a call.
And we"re more than happy to match up wines and dinner menus!! And we love doing it!!
Have a great weekend!! And stay up to date with us on Facebook!
Always Drink Responsibly.
It all starts Tonight with Open Bottle Thursday!

The new vintage has just arrived and we had so much success with the last offering, we were able to get a great opportunity for you again!!
93 Points, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate!
"The 2014 is a beauty, with plenty of finesse, forest floor, floral blueberry notes, silky tannins, medium to full body, high energy, a vibrant mouthfeel, and a long crisp finish with loads of blue and black fruits. It should drink nicely for 15 or more years."
91 Points, Vinous, Antonio Galloni!
The 2014 Red Wine (Sonoma County) has turned out beautifully. Ripe, luscious and voluptuous to the core, the 2014 exudes richness and concentration. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc give the wine its lifted aromatics, while the Merlot adds softness and juiciness throughout. With a little aeration, the 2014 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. The 2014 spent ten months in oak, about 30% new.
CENYTH is a project from the Jackson Family’s small vineyard estates with the highly respected Bordelais winemaker Pierre Seillan, assisted by his daughter Helene, making the wines from Sonoma County vineyards owned by the Jackson Family.
Cenyth is Middle English for a direction or path taken.
Our thoughts……
Beautiful dark ruby in color, this wine showcases lovely spice notes on the nose. On the palate, this elegant, classic Bordeaux blend demonstrates hints of spice and nutmeg that co-mingle with white pepper flavors in delicate harmony. The finish is long, smooth with very fine tannins, ending with a lingering freshness of fruit.

Hélène’and Pierre Seillan
Pierre Seillan is best known as a winemaker whose Californian Bordeaux blends, particularly those marketed through the luxe Vérité label ($300-$500 per bottle), have earned multiple 100-point scores from Robert Parker.
Cenyth represents Hélène’s mentorship with her father, world-renowned winemaker Pierre Seillan of Verite fame has three decades of experience in Bordeaux under his belt, including stints in the Loire, Lalande-a-Pomerol and Saint Emilion, before coming to California in 1997. He blends his small micro-cuvées with a preconceived notion of how the wine should taste, ostensibly a Californian wine in a Bordeaux mould. Applying the knowledge and techniques she has observed and learned from her father over a lifetime, Hélène crafted the inaugural 2009 vintage of Cenyth, a Bordeaux- blend from mountain and hillside vineyards in Sonoma County.
As she continues on her path as winemaker, Hélène is using her experience in the vineyards of France and her passion for Sonoma County to define her own style. Through her old and new world experience, she has learned many lessons and important values, but perhaps none are as significant as the lessons she continues to learn from her father.
Hélène Seillan spent her childhood in both France and California, surrounded by family and friends for whom winemaking was as much a passion as it was a profession. Following in her father’s footsteps, Hélène pursued a career in winemaking and began splitting her time between Sonoma County and Saint-Émilion. Starting in 2006, she served as assistant winemaker for her father at the family’s Bordeaux estate, where she worked on all aspects of winery management showing the same talent, passion and ability as her father.
Hélène holds a degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the Institut Rural de Vayres in Bordeaux. When she is not in the vineyards, Hélène likes to indulge her second passion for food and enjoys cooking for friends and family.

Falstaff – “Winemaker of the year 2017”
Wine Region Wagram: The Wagram, a 25-mile long and 100 foot high ridge between the towns of Krems and Tulln, consists of thousands of years old gravel sediments from the ancient Danube River.
Soil and Climate: Clay and loess soils predominate with occasional granite formations. These very thick layers of soil allow the vines to develop deep roots, penetrate the ground intensely and, thus are protected against dryness and given accessibility to minerals and sediments. The west-east expansion of the Wagram results in the southern orientation of the vineyards, allowing the vines to stretch out towards the sun. The west-east expansion running parallel with the Danube has further advantages. From the east, the mild Pannonian climate follows the Danube upstream, while from the west and northwest cool air from the Waldviertel flows into the Danube Valley. It is exactly this interplay between warm and cool that makes the wines rich in finesse, multi-layered and ensures an interesting combination of fruit and acidity.
Production: The physiologically ripe grapes are harvested by hand and handled as gentle as possible. When grapes come in from the vineyards they are hand-selected on a sorter belt. A long period of extensive contact with the yeast makes the wines harmonious, ensuring that there is a quality balance between acidity and alcohol. As the wines are bottled relatively late they can mature slowly.
This is Anton Bauer‘s philosophy: Things need time to develop, and wine needs time as well.

Orin Swift "Locations" Wines
by Dave Phinney
Liz Van Wazer, The Robins Cellars
The Idea!!
SIMPLE. COMPLEX. FUN.
In the world of wine there are compelling Locations that exist where soil, climate and vines interact to produce grapes that uniquely express their Location through wine. Our love of wine recognizes the nuances of time and place that combine and interact to represent location. These Locations exist individually within appellations of the new and old world, but are seldom combined across appellation, in the art of blending due to laws and restrictions that make it near impossible to express true winemaking freedom.
In Champagne, across appellation blending is a time honored and respected tradition – a tried and true method for producing a premium and consistent wine that represents the best aspects of the Champagne region. Why can’t this concept be taken wider – across country? Why do the rules not allow this? Why are these rules accepted?
But what if it could be done. What if one could blend across all of the major appellations, to produce a wine that represented a country of origin? What if one could do this across all of the major wine producing regions of the world. What if there were no rules? What if one had complete freedom to express whatever one believed. Could it be done?
The question is – do you break the rules, and thousands of years of history and tradition, in pursuit of expressing freedom?
WE BELIEVE SO.
WELCOME TO LOCATIONS.
The Wines!!
California White $19.99
Immediately, a nose of lemon zest, citrus, and a touch of honey lead to a bright and crisp entry complemented by an encompassing nectar mouth feel. A ripe stone fruit mid palate of apricots and peaches combine with an evolving crème custard coating. It finishes with a subtle minerality and a lychee texture, making this an ideal summertime wine.
Oregon Red $26.99
Vivid red with a deep purple core, the nose is generous with ripe cherry, black raspberry, acacia flowers, and hint of forest floor. Immediately, the palate is treated to a textural mélange of sweet cherry, pomegranate, rose petal, and sappy strawberry. A lively mid-palate reveals a mineral twist and exotic spice notes juxtaposed with fine tannins and superb clarity on the finish.
Italian Red $19.99
Locations I-2 Italian Red Wine is composed of Nero D’Avola and Negroamaro from Puglia, Barbera from Piedmont, and a small percentage of Sangiovese from Tuscany. It receives vinification in large oak and spends ten months in barrel prior to bottling. It displays more acidity than the French cuvee, along with notes of wild herbs, licorice, tomato skins, black olives, red and black currants, cherries, barbecue spice and burning embers. This serious, medium to full-bodied, tasty, distinctive wine can be consumed over the next several years.
Spanish Red $19.99
Locations E-2 Spanish Red Wine is a blend of Grenache from Priorat, Rioja and Toro, Tempranillo from Rioja, and Carignan from Ribera del Duero and Carinyena. It has the same fermentation and upbringing as the French and Italian wines. Majestic, soaring black fruit aromas intermixed with forest floor, white flowers and kirsch emerge from this full-bodied, opulent, voluptuously textured red along with stunning richness and depth.
Argentina Red $19.99
Dave Phinney"s Locations project is off to a rousing start with this delicious blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. It"s a lively glass that"s red fruit focused, with red currant, plum, black cherry and fall spice, with supple tannins, good grip and fine integration of flavors through the long finish. A great value that"s worth locating. A Platinum Award winner at the 2016 Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition.
Portugal Red $19.99
The glass opens with a triple layered aroma of savory peppercorn and cocoa, jasmine flowers, and black fruit. immediate dark chocolate structure provides the canvas on which black cherries, roasted lamb, and exotic spices intermingle. The wine finishes with tapering dark chocolate structure and culminates with hints of vanilla.
California Red $29.99
The CA-4, cuvée, all from 2014. It is a blend from diverse California areas, ranging from Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino to the Sierra Foothills, of Tempranillo, Barbera, Petite Sirah and Grenache. This is an outstanding wine, the kind of bistro/brasserie red that consumers will love. Opaque deep ruby/purple, it is loaded with intense wild berry fruit and a Zinfandel-like briariness, offering pepper, herbs, a touch of smoke and loads of black fruits and background oak. This is a big boy at 15.5% alcohol, but it’s not the least hot – just savory, luscious and opulent. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
French Red $19.99
Locations F French Red Wine is a blend of Grenache from the Roussillon, Syrah from the Rhone Valley and assorted Bordeaux varieties. It was fermented in large oak vats and aged in barrel for ten months prior to bottling. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet kiss of licorice, black currants and camphor. Deep, full-bodied and ripe (but not over-ripe), it possesses good freshness, vibrancy and delineation as well as a juicy, in-your-face style. These wines are all meant to be drunk upon release, but enough stuffing is present that they should evolve for 4-5 years.

New from Stone and NOFX Brewing
Punk in Drublic: This craft brewing meets punk music collaboration, is a hoppy lager perfect for “when you just need something to wash the noise down.” "When Fat Mike of NOFX told us he was interested in brewing a beer, the first thing we said was, "Why are you calling us at 3am and how did you get our number?" Turns out he was serious (for once) and after completely ignoring the advice of our legal team, we figured we would give it a shot. The result is Stone & NOFX Punk In Drublic Hoppy Lager. Which, against all odds, is really f***ing good.
This is no light, corporate, tasteless beer for drinking on the beach. We’re still Stone. And punk is not dead yet. This is a hopped-up, bold, flavorful lager that the authority figures in your life are sure to hate. So crack one open and revel in this self-entitled beer. " by gatornation 17 June 2017
New From Alpine Beers
Windows Up: 92 points from BeerAdvocate. This West Coast style IPA is 7% and chocked full of Citra and Mosaic hops. It pours a beautiful golden with fine head. The aroma is a funky hops and malt mess. The taste is malty and hoppy with a long bitter aftertaste. Quality through and through. I highly recommended. this one!
Truck Trail: 12 oz can from Virginia.
Clear dark amber body with a decent head. Moderate strength aroma but strong bold hoppy flavor with a typically bitter aftertaste.
Overall: offers a well crafted brew and powerful hop hit.
