Dear Subscriber

Today is June 22  and it is...

National Onion Ring Day
National HVAC Tech Day and
National Chocolate Eclair Day!!!!!

Who would"ve thought that they decided to honor one of my favorite sides with a day of their own!!

Onion Rings are close to the top of my list as a "go with" for Sandwiches and grilled meats, I"ve loved them since my first order served with a hot dog and an orange freeze at Hot Shoppes by the old Griffith Stadium Ballpark off of Florida Ave. YUMMMMMMM!

If you missed the class on Tuesday, you missed a night with many good wines and more than a few good hard chuckles. It made Summer seem that much closer!!

For those of you to whom we haven"t had the chance to mention it. Our grandson Oskar will be visiting in the matter of just a few more days!! He arrives in the company of my daughter and son-in-law, whom I am almost certain, will be more than happy to pass him off to the grandparents so that they can regain a bit of sanity!!
Don"t worry we"ll bring him by the shop with some regularity!

And Don"t forget to mark your calendar for our

Tuesday, June 27 Tasting

Big Chardonnay Lovers, This is your wine!

Full bodied and fabulous!

The Wine Advocate says.....

“Situated high on Alexander Mountain, Stonestreet has put together their finest portfolio of wines since I have been tasting them. The 2013 Chardonnay Estate Vineyards reveals lots of tropical fruit, especially tangerine.”

“Pushing in several directions, this is both rich and layered, with butterscotch, anise and fig notes.
Shows a sense of elegance and refinement.”

Our Thoughts...............

This is a sublimely layered and intriguing wine, pretty and floral on the nose in citrus peel and jasmine. Weighty and plush on the palate, it traffics in caramel and honey, settling into harmony on the lengthy finish.

Their Story, their words..........

Ranging in elevation from 400ft to 2400ft, Stonestreet Estate Vineyards stands as the one largest and most extensive mountain vineyards in the world. Towering high above the Alexander Valley in the Mayacamas Mountain Range, Stonestreet Estate defies all previous conceptions of winegrowing. Single vineyard blocks are aligned in every imaginable spot on the compass, with peaks, valleys and ridges creating a broad spectrum of varied facings and elevations.

Winegrowers throughout history have looked to high elevation sites with impoverished, rocky soils to produce richly concentrated wines of character. Mountain vineyards are notoriously difficult to farm, and Stonestreet Estate is no exception. The Estate’s myriad of vine spacing, and broad array of elevation and mesoclimate require a vine-by-vine approach to winegrowing.

As harvest approaches, our winemaking team works closely with Mother Nature to determine quality levels for each block, walking the vineyards and tasting berries for flavor and tannin maturation. The selection process is a stringent one, but the rewards are unmistakable: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc etched with the bold and distinctive flavor profile of the Mayacamas Mountain Range.

Sustainability

Stonestreet Estate Vineyards is committed to demonstrating leadership in sustainable environmental practices. Our goals are focused around increasing water and energy use efficiency, conserving the use of resources, reducing waste and maintain-ing the natural environment. We continually work to decrease our environmental footprint in our vineyards, wineries, offices, warehouses, sales, marketing and transportation.

The Wines!!

Wagram Gruner Veltliner $10.99
Notes of crisp green pear and crunchy red apple are very appetizing, the palate is fresh and echoes these flavors and edges them with some spice and alcoholic heat, but also has a drive and energy of its own. Friendly and very moreish.

Rose" $12.99
Clear, light pink with a stimulating fragrant floral and berry nose. The wine has an elegant structure. It is round and soft on the palate with a clean, crisp and dry finish. A marvelous patio wine for long summer evenings searching for an invitation to dinner.

Speigel Gruner Veltliner $25.99

92 POINTS WE
Subtle but unmistakable white pepper flashes through this slender, lemony but oh-so-savory wine. Notions of ripe pear enter on the midpalate which comes across as complete, harmonious and long.

Reserve Pinot Noir $39.99

95 POINTS WE
The most gentle strawberry fruit appears unobtrusively on the nose. The palate reveals incredibly pure and honest wild strawberry fruit. The palate is slender but totally concentrated—there is depth to the wine and something ethereal and utterly seductive. This is not about power but about arresting allure. The true nature of Pinot Noir has been captured here, without force, without guile. This is honest and all the more disarming for that.

Wagram Reserve Red $29.99

92 POINTS WE
Savory animal notes suggest a rather earthy palate but plum and blueberry fruit assert themselves elegantly on the medium body. This is lucid with freshness and supple with soft, dark fruit notes. There is a peppery fringe of pleasant spice. Each and every variety of this blend gets its due: in structure and spice, body and flavor.

Cabernet Sauvignon $54.99

Falstaff Winner of Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 & 2010

Deep dark, black core, classical rum pot tone, spices of mulled wine, some black currant and cinnamon spice; concentrated on the palate, excellently reflects the varietal character, again black currant and ripe, red berries, mineral, spicy tones of herbs and fruits with a toasting coat determine the long finish.

The Wines!!

Cooper Mountain Pinot Gris $19.99
Chehalem, Willamette: Cooper Mountain"s signature Pinot Gris is picked in their oldest Pinot Gris vineyards from 1978 and 1982.
100% stainless steel fermentation. Shows tones of mineral and pear. Rich and balanced.
This lighter-styled wine, perfect match with shellfish, white fish and spicy dishes. Organic/biodynamic

Palais Prive" Rose" $19.99
Luberon, Provence: 55% Grenache, 45% Syrah. Perennial-medal winner showing pale salmon-pink color. Persistent strawberry notes from the Syrah, while the Grenache offers bright red currant tart which keeps the finish lively and lengthy.

(Silver medal at Concours des Vins Orange 2017)

Dreyer Sonoma Chardonnay $17.99
Carneros: The cool afternoon winds of Carneros help to keep acidity in balance, creating a supple wine expressing pear and pineapple aromas followed with ripe, tropical and stone fruits on the palate.
Hints of citrus balance the rich mouthfeel developed during 8 months barrel aging in 25% new oak.
Classic “new” California style.

Cooper Mountain Pinot Noir $21.99
Willamette Valley: Powerful and pretty, 2015 Cooper Hill Pinot Noir is vibrant and expressive, displaying cherry and dark berry notes framed with spice. Organic/biodynamic

Naughty Cellars RACY Red Blend $34.99
Napa:  50% cabernet sauvignon, 20% cabernet franc, 20% zinfandel, 10% merlot
This wine was made "just for the fun of it” by Steve Reynolds of Reynolds Family Winery ... blending these varietals together may not be considered a standard by the "Wine Critics” but Steve has created a full-bodied, thoroughly enjoyable wine that has complexity with varying layers of ripe, rich fruit backed by peppery spices and hints of cedar.

The Beerman.......

Another fantastic beer week, with a little of something for everyone! Besides what is featured below, we have fresh Maine Beer Co. Peeper, Zoe, & Moe! If you didn"t try my new favorite, Stillwater Wavvy Double IPA, we still have a few more 4 packs left! Come on in and try it! Perfect for summer! - Dave

As always, check us out on Facebook   for a more detailed list (and photos!).  - Dave

Three Notch"d Minuteman New England Style IPA: One of my favorite "local" beers! "Pours a clear orange color with 2+ fingers of white head. Smell is citrus heavy with a hint of pine in it. Heavy citrus, mostly orange, flavors up front, a little bitterness comes in at the middle, retains the orange flavor through with a little earthy flavor coming in towards the end. Clean ending, flavors don"t linger too long on the tongue and are pleasant while there. Interesting beer, very juicy and pleasantly readily available."

Stone Ghost Hammer IPA:
A perfect summer IPA! Light & Crisp! "Ghost Hammer celebrates a bold aroma of honeysuckle, citrus and an overall herbaceous, peppery bouquet that plays out over a golden body and a lacy white foam cap. Light honey and caramel decorate the tongue along with a faint glimmer of graham cracker and granola. But when the malty sweetness lifts from the tongue, the full flavor of Loral hops come alive. Receding floral scents are replaced by citrusy lemons, tangy tropical kiwi, a herbal note of green tea and sassafras, along with the peppery bitterness that"s common to European lager. Grassy, stemmy and trending verbena-like, the new hops play out like super Noble hops more and more as the taste finishes. Medium light in body, Stone"s "west coast" character is front an center as the ale finishes bone dry, crisp and clean in order to highlight these exciting hops in their most vivid glory. A long spicy bitterness trails into the next sip while all other flavors fall from the palate rather quickly."

Three Notch"d Bourbon Biggie Smores Imperial Stout:
90 points from BeerAdvocate! "Deep brown in color with about a half inch of tinted brown head that settles to maybe an eighth. Nice lacing as it drinks down. Smells like a mixture of marshmallow, Graham crackers, vanilla, hint of smoke, Bourbon, and hints of booze. Taste is chocolate, marshmallow, Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and booze.  Mouthful is medium to heavy and very smooth. Carbonation is average. Finish is semisweet and short. This is one of those rare gems when a brewery just absolutely nails it. The only thing I could say against this beer is that there was no discernible graham cracker or smoke that I tasted but that is subjective. The nose was one of the better smelling beers I have had to date. Paired with an equivalent delicious tatse and mouthful and you have an awesome beer. Seek this out!"

Flying Monkey Craft Brewing Co. The Chocolate Manifesto Chocolate Milk Stout:
90 points from BeerAdvocate! "Very velvety smooth, sweet, massive chocolate, creamy, lactose silk mouthfeel, hints of espresso, and chocolate truffles. Bold chocolate, banana sweet aroma to the nose. Black, opaque, with a large coco colored head, some ringed lace on the glass. Medium/Full body. Yummy liquid chocolate cake in a bottle."

Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster Imperial IPA:
A Classic IPA! " Pours hazy, gold in color, with minimal head. Taste is mango, cracker, honey sweetness with light orange hops. Very malty-not what I was expecting from an imperial IPA. Heavy bodied and low carbonation. Tastes more like a strong ale than an IPA, but very very good. Definitely a sipper. As long as you do not go in expecting a hop bomb, you will not be disappointed. Excellent beer and up to the quality I expect from Great Lakes."
