“The greatest glory of a free-born people
is to transmit that freedom to their children.”
William Havard
Originally, Memorial Day was known as Decoration Day, it originated after the Civil War to commemorate the Union & Confederate soldiers. On May 30, 1868, the first official Decoration Day was declared by General John A. Logan and observed at Arlington National Cemetery. Volunteers decorated the graves of more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. During World War II, Decoration Day was expanded and renamed Memorial Day to honor all Americans who died in military service. The day became a national holiday in 1971.
Memorial Day traditions are many:
The U.S. flag is supposed to be flown at half-staff (remember to raise the flag to the top of the pole, before lowering it to half-staff) until noon, at which point it is supposed to be raised to full height.
The Indianapolis 500 has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. And NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 has been part of the weekend since 1961.
The wearing of red poppies has been an official tribute to the fallen since the 1920s.
The National Memorial Day Concert is held annually on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol and televised on PBS.
And, of course, the three-day weekend has long served as a marker of the summer season, as well as a day for picnics, parades, barbecues and family gatherings.
With over 1.1 million service men and women making the ultimate sacrifice the price for our freedom is high. We must not forget this. So set aside some time on Monday to reflect about all that we have here in our great country and be thankful for those who made it possible.
Raise a glass in their honor.
We’ll do the same.

Our Thoughts on this wine.....
Blackberry, dusty dried herbs, a little vanilla, and some pepper. The taste is a very smooth blackberry and black cherry with a finish that"s a little sweeter. A hint of the herbs comes through in the taste as well. Bright acidity, a little silky tannins, and great balance.
A bit about Barossa.....
The soils of the Barossa Valley tell the story of an ancient continent. Ancient events have contributed to create a tapestry of mineral abundant, ancient friable red clay loams which lay across the Barossa Valley. Amongst the oldest in the world, the Barossa Valley soils provide a unique environment for viticulture. Their mineral rich content and moderate fertility restricts vine vigour and contributes to the growing of concentrated fruit. A pocket in the great continent of Australia, the Barossa Valley has its own warm climate, experiencing higher sunshine hours and less humidity than either Bordeaux or Burgundy, perfect for grape growing and ripening.
A combination of these warm climatic conditions and unique soils further contributes to the moderation of vine vigour and keeps the berries small with low yields, resulting in enhanced fruit concentration.

Our Thoughts on this wine.....
Light yellow color with green reflection. At first, this Viognier exhibits some banana, citrus and pine sap aromas. after some time in the glass, it develops some peach and mango. In the mouth, it is quite lovely with a great fruit forward approach. It is intense and balanced at the same time. Retro-inhalation offers an array of flavors, such as ripe peach, white flowers and pear. The finish is long and offer a creamy and lemony aftertaste.

The Wines!
Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 2016
Argiolas is the foremost wine estate on the island of Sardinia producing archetypal wines from native varietals. The winery was founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas and was the first on the island to pursue quality over quantity. Today, the Argiolas family is recognized as Sardinia’s leading producer of wine. Vermentino often shows the fragrance of macchia, the mix of evergreen shrubs and herbs that typifies the Sardinian landscape. Costamolino hints at aromas of pine and mint coupled with ripe stone fruit and sweet citrus. The palate is at once vibrant and textural and finishes with lingering acidity.
Zenato Lugana di San Benedetto DOC 2015
Made from 100% Trebbiano di Lugana harvested from the San Benedetto parcel on the south shore of Lake Garda. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and refined for six months before being released. Pale lemon-green in color, San Benedetto Lugana offers appealing notes of peaches, citrus, bananas, and herbs, which are underscored by crisp acidity and supple body on the palate. Pair this wine with grilled skate, risi a bisi, carbonara dishes, and roasted chicken.
Masciarelli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2014
100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, The Masciarelli Montepulciano d"Abruzzo shows a Deep ruby red color. The nose is intense and complex. On the palate, you will find red berries, cherry, red currants, violets, hint of tobacco.Since its founding in 1978, the successful family-run Masciarelli winery has grown from its original 2.5 hectares in the town of San Martino to a total of 320 hectares today, spread across 14 different towns and villages throughout Abruzzo"s provinces. Food pairing Medium weight and a streak of acidity make this a great all-round food wine. Best served with tomato-based pasta dishes.
Zenato Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2014
Although the Superiore designation requires that the grapes that go into this wine are harvested at a slightly higher sugar level than standard Valpolicella—thus producing a wine of potential higher alcohol—this Valpolicella is a soft, supple example of this classic wine. Made predominately from Corvina, this wine displays the ripe black cherry flavors for which the grape is known. Ruby red in color, this Valpolicella Superiore offers fleshy aromas of wild berries, black currants, black cherries, and spices, with hints of chocolate. On the palate, the wine is dry and robust with velvety texture. Pair this wine with antipasti, arrabbiata sauces, seared sashimi tuna, or orange-glazed duck.
Zenato Alanera Rosso Veronese IGT 2013
Alanera translates as "black wing," a reference to the raven, "corvo" in Italian, and an homage to the Valpolicella region"s treasured indigenous grape, "Corvina". Alanera is a seductive wine that derives extra richness from an innovative variation on the traditional appassimento method practiced throughout the zone. 50% of all the grapes harvested to produce this wine are partially dried for 45-60 days. The classic Valpolicella varietals are dried in the main drying facility in Sant" Ambrogio where the Zenato family dry their Amarone grapes, while the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are dried at Zenato"s Santa Cristina winery. Brilliant ruby in color, Alanera delights the senses with a variety of aromas and flavors that include fresh and dried cherries and prunes, sweet spice, and hints of coffee and tobacco. On the palate, Alanera is full-bodied with elegant and velvety tannins. Vibrant acidity brings balance and freshness, and supports a long and harmonious finish.

The Wines!
We are pleased to announce the release of Two Roads Brewing Company from Stratford, Connecticut! Some of you might be familiar with them because this is the brewery that brews all of Evil Twin"s cans! They"re outstanding and we just got five of their beers in stock! Here"s what came in:
Two Roads Road 2 Ruin Double IPA:
92 points from RateBeer!
Clear rich golden under a thin foamy white head. Lovely guava and melon and citrus rind aroma that’s gently resiny and a touch piney but overall tropical and semisweet and melon-ish. Smooth and complex hoppy flavor that’s a little tropical yet earthy with some guava and melon and American pine tones but there’s a juicy and pale malty sweetness throughout. Very delightfully balanced but large and complex."
Two Roads Lil" Heaven Session IPA:
96 points in Style from RateBeer!
"Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. Great stuff, loads of pithy citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, slight grass and pine. Light bodied with average carbonation. Clean, dry to finish, lasting pith, grapefruit, understated pale malt sweetness. Excellent."
Two Roads Ol" Factory Pils:
95 points in Style from RateBeer!

Pours a cloudy yellow colour with finger-width white head with decent retention and leaves lacing. Aromas of wheat malt as well as pineapple, pine, lemon & hints of spice.
