"Delightfully rich and expressive, with tiers of dark blackberry, mocha, licorice and cherry. Broad and lingering on the deep and persistent finish."

We have been hoping to be able to offer this vineyard for a few years now but there has never been
sufficient availability.
If your a fan of the Las Atluras this is a must tasting!

Bright crimson red in color. Aromas of black cherry and ripe plums combine with subtle notes of dried herbs and smoke. The palate entry shows flavors of cranberry, fresh raspberry, and ripe cherry, complemented by hints of vanilla and baking spice. A balance of savory, cedar and cocoa powder on one side, and sweet, fig jam and ripe blackberry on the other, round out the mouth-feel. The overall impression is one of ripe red and black berry fruit flavors, great structure, smooth tannins and a lingering fresh finish.

100% French oak (60% new, 40% seasoned)

Belle Glos is part of the famed Wagner family of wines. Crafting handmade wine since the 1800"s (over five family generations) with the names Caymus, Mer Soleil, Conundrum and ,of course, Belle Glos. Tasting Notes:

The aromas are abundant with bright cherry, cranberry and brown spice, reminiscent of warm cinnamon toast topped with plum jam. On the palate, the bright cherry opens the show, then evolves into a lush, sweetly spiced plum pudding, coating the mouth with a velvety richness. The wine then develops an intense mineral note, adding yet another dimension, lending way to silky tannins and a lengthy finish.

Dairyman Vineyard

Dairyman sits in the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley – a narrow valley that ends at the Pacific Ocean, near the town of Jenner. Named because it was once a dairy farm and pastureland, this vineyard has realized its greatest potential as a prime, virgin Pinot Noir vineyard. It was first planted in 2000 to a mix of Dijon clones 116, 667 and 777, all grafted on low-vigor rootstock 101-14. The region enjoys an extended growing season due to the cooling fog, that comes in through the Petaluma Gap in each morning and evening, and the afternoon breezes help to soften the effects of the warm sun. Together, these cooling elements help us to achieve ripe fruit while maintaining bright acidity. At the vineyard, each vine has been trained up on a vertical shoot position (VSP) trellis, which both limits the growth and opens up the typically congested fruit zone. The combination of low-vigor rootstock and alluvial soil stress the vines. The cool, coastal climate creates a long growing season that brings about small, concentrated and flavorful berries.

Wagner Family

In 1971 Charles F. (Charlie) Wagner and his wife Lorna Belle Glos Wagner asked their son Charles J. (Chuck) Wagner, who had just graduated from high school, if he would be interested in joining them in starting up a winery. If Chuck declined the offer, Charlie and Lorna were planning to sell out of their ranch in Napa Valley and move to Australia. Chuck accepted his parents’ offer to launch the winery, Caymus Vineyards.

The Wagners produced their first vintage in 1972, consisting of 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Since then, Caymus has focused their efforts in the production of quality Cabernet Sauvignon. Today’s production is 65,000 cases.

Caymus Vineyards remains 100% family-owned by the Wagners. Charlie, Lorna Belle, and Chuck worked together as a remarkable team for over 30 years building Caymus Cabernet. Today, Chuck, his two sons, Charlie and Joe, and one daughter, Jenny, have joined the family team. Farming grapes remain the priority with the family farming about 350 acres of choice Napa Valley land.

The Wagners took the name Caymus from the Mexican land grant known as Rancho Caymus, given to George Yount in 1836, which encompassed what eventually became the town of Rutherford and much of the surrounding area.

For five generations, my family has lived and loved the Napa Valley. Our grandfather settled here in the 1800s and from that moment forward, we"ve grown to understand there is simply no substitute for an intimate knowledge of the land that only comes by "living" in the vineyard. Working the land with our own hands has given us insights into California winemaking that can"t be found in any book or corporate farm manual.

Chuck Wagner continues to direct the world-reknown Cabernet program at Caymus Vineyards in Napa Valley; Charlie is making exquisite Chardonnay at Mer Soleil in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County; Joseph is making fine Pinot Noir under the Belle Glos label in the coastal areas of California; Jenny is learning the ropes here at Caymus and ah yes, our longtime winemaker for Conundrum, Jon Bolta, continues his craft of making that puzzling, white wine blend.

Friday Tasting

Hillinger Winery Austria with our friend Klaus

 5:00 - 8:00 p.m

The Wines!!

Leo Hillinger Secco Sparkling Pinot Noir “Pink Ribbon”
100% Pinot Noir crafted into a sparkling rose wine made in the ProSecco style. It has delicate aromas of fresh strawberries and red berries, which follow through on the palate. The flavors are beautifully balanced with a vibrant and refreshingly dry finish. Wonderful as an aperitif to begin a great dinner and evening, pairs very well with Sushi, or serve after dinner with fresh strawberries. Secco also makes a perfect toast!!

Leo Hillinger Pinot Gris 2015
Given its uncomplicated nature, Pinot Gris, also known as Grauburgunder in Austria, is very enjoyable to drink.     A golden yellow color with an aroma reminiscent of exotic fruits and fresh nuts, with a fine honey note in the background, which is pleasantly reflected in the mouth. The finish is dry, pleasant and long.  This wine is ideal for fish, white meat dishes and vegetables or simply as an elegant wine to drink on its own.

Leo Hillinger Pinot Blanc Terroir 2015
Terroir“ stands for Leithaberg – produced from 40-year old vines and this wine reflects all that! Straw yellow in color, it shows the mineral content and salinity of the lime and slate soil. Aromas of peach, nuts and smoke. Juicy with a good complexity and firm texture, white fruit nuances, and fresh, while maintaining its structure. A wine that grabs your attention through its elegant yet distinctive minerality and pleasantly long palate. Great aging potential.

Leo Hillinger Blaufränkisch 2015
Deep black berry fruit and soft tannins balanced with beautiful black pepper spices. The finish is very long, smooth and silky with some of the spice and fruit returning.  A medium–bodied soft wine, which can be enjoyed on its own or with barbeque, grilled fish (little chilled), pork tenderloin and kabobs.
Leo Hillinger HILLSide 2014

Wine Enthusiast  92 Points
60% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 10% Zweigelt.
This wine has an explosive nose of plum, raspberry, sweet tobacco and vanilla. Big and full up-front with good spice, black pepper and a long pleasant lingering finish.

Grape: Sauvignon Blanc. Appellation :Santa Ynez Valley
Wine Advocate 90 Points
"There is a strong mineral element on the nose of this wine from the biodynamic-minded producer, along with lime juice, lime blossoms and a nearly spearmint herbal sense. Zesty acidity frames the palate, along with white rocks, lime and lemon juice and green pears on the finish, altogether clean and fresh."

Beckmen Vineyards, Santa Ynez Valley Cuvee le Bec (2014)
Grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre. Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley .

Wine Advocate 90 Points
"Leading off the reds and California’s take on a quality Cotes du Rhône, the peppery, black and blue fruits and floral-scented 2014 Cuvee le Bec is plump, medium to full-bodied, rounded and beautifully textured on the palate. Drink it over the coming 2-4 years. Note, the blend here is 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre and 7% Counoise, which spent 16 months in neutral oak barrels. Drink Date 2015 – 2019."

Beckmen Vineyards, Santa Ynez Valley Grenache Estate (2015)
Grapes: Grenache. Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley .

Wine Advocate 91 Points
“The 2015 vintage of this wine, was formerly named the “Estate” Grenache! This 100% Grenache wine expresses aromas of red and blue fruits, with spice and floral complexities. The flavors are lush with deep red fruits and an incredible texture. Great acidity, freshness, and tannins frame the long finish of a great vintage of this wine.”

Beckmen Vineyards, Santa Ynez Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (2015)
Grape : Cabernet Sauvignon . Appellation : Santa Ynez Valley . Wine Advocate 93, 1100 Cases made down 60% of an average year.
“Crafted from the finest blocks of Cabernet grown at the Winery Estate Vineyard, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is fantastic. Aromas and flavors of high toned fruit, violets, vanilla, and nutmeg explode from the glass. A big texture and great structure keep the wine well balanced and smooth across the palate, with ripe tannins that carry the flavor on and on, through a long finish that lasts for over a minute. Drink this now or lay it down in your cellar, this blockbuster Cabernet will drink beautifully from 2016 - 2036. One of the best Cabernets we have ever produced! ”

Beckmen Vineyards, Ballard Canyon Syrah Purisma Mountain Vineyard (2014)
Grape: Syrah. Appellation: Ballard Canyon.

Wine Advocate 92 Points
“As our 15th release of the PMV Syrah, the 2014 vintage is filled with classic Purisima Mountain Syrah flavors and aromas. Remarkably similar to our 2004 vintage, this explosive wine has an amazingly rich, deep color. Soaring from the glass are aromas of chocolate, smoke, blackberries, and game. The mouth is full with rich flavors of dark berries, vanilla, pepper, and more chocolate, with fine, ripe tannins that carry the fruit through an incredibly long finish. A fantastic vintage of PMV Syrah, this wine will drink well from 2016 – 2031. ”
