 The Wine Advocate

"Longtime winemaker Ted Edwards has fashioned a beautiful 2013 Chardonnay, an 11,000-case, non-malolactic, 70% barrel-fermented cuvee from multiple sources throughout Napa. One-third new French oak was used. Notes of delicate pear, apple blossom and tropical fruits emerge from this classic Chardonnay. Medium to full-bodied with a greenish hue to its color, it exhibits impressive layers and minerality."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Brilliant straw in color, this chardonnay expresses fruit aroma of green apple, pear, ripe banana, ripe pineapple, and tropical fruits. Adding to the complexity, the oak aging is fairly integrated adding spice, like nutmeg, vanilla, and the nuance of angel food cake with a slight baked apple and clove. This wine has great viscosity, depth and an intriguing long finish. The flavors are lively on the palate with pear, citrus, lemon-lime, green apple and peach. This wine shows great complexity, creaminess, and elegance to be paired with many foods.

Freemark Abbey:

A trailblazer of Napa Valley winemaking, Freemark Abbey continues to evolve. Our outward transformation is a sign of our inward commitment to crafting classic Napa Valley wines of superior pedigree and quality.
Raise a glass to their 130th anniversary!!

1886
"An intrepid Victorian widow who could often be spotted riding," Josephine Tychson built and operated the original redwood cellar on our estate, cultivated the land, and became the first female winemaker on record in Napa Valley.

1949
Freemark Abbey opens a “Sampling Room,” as tasting rooms were first called, making it one of the earliest wineries in Napa Valley to offer visitors sips of wine.

The Rutherford Bench

World renowned, this is arguably one of the finest locations for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Deeply rooted in the alluvial fan soil, these vines produce wines famous for signature “Rutherford dust” and tobacco behind dark fruit flavors. For more than 30 years, Freemark Abbey has held exclusive sourcing rights to two prestigious vineyards here.

“I spend a lot of time out in the vineyards throughout the season, working with the crews in the myriad of decisions that affect the flavors and quality of the fruit. We pick at the last possible moment, when the grapes have reached full complexity and flavor development.”
